Seems it is in the registry today. Looks like a European car imported into the US based on the gauges. May have been a left over push button body that was built later in 72 or someone may have just liked the push button handles and did a conversion. Also has a wide body kit and wing.
Interesting - if it's indeed a euro pushbutton it's serial no should be lower than #1285.

You should find the last 3 digits of the VIN stamped many places if it's one of the first handbuild cars - headlight buckets, all 3 engine covers, inside of doors, side gills, deck lid, front radiator cross bar, condenser screen ....
