I agree I never trust mileage statements, especially on a 40 year old car (for DMV it's 10 years). Anyone who buys a car based upon the mileage as a factor should do all the due diligence to ascertain the mileage is correct. Personally for me that would have to include a complete paper trail.

That said I do believe a lot of Pantera's simply got parked and driven very little, so encountering low mileage cars for sale is not uncommon. The question is what additional value is a 40 year old 4.5K or 17K mile Pantera? To me very little unless it is as it left the factory and you want it as a museum piece. In fact in many cases less as non driven cars develop more problems than those used regularly i.e. seals, rubber dry out, critters and rot invade etc. so appearance often doesn't reflect mileage, unless it's been a museum display already.

The moral of the story is to forget about the mileage of your car as it is unimportant other than as a starting point to your ownership, the crux is to put as many miles on it as possible while you have it as otherwise you are really missing out on the joy of Pantera ownership.
