Hello, I am currently going through 5998. My father purchased this car in 91, It was his "fun" car. life happened and it has set for a few years. We have several Mustangs and I am well versed with them. Summit is always spot on with the mustangs parts. I am trying to meticulously go through the car to get it running. I have a serious issue with the alternator/ac mount not allowing the alternator to be straight with the pulleys. I feel that a racecar does not need ac. Nor the belt or the superfluous tension pulley. Anyone else think the same?? The starter was great fun to get out. One guy said on here a p/n #9504 starter from summit would work, but summit say's it wont... Now the measurements of 9504 check out, and the 9503 summit recommended do not. At a loss... I'm open to any and all helpful "hints" anyone has. I'm new to this platform, it seems very informative! I am trying to not pull the motor for the engine work. I am really looking forward to meeting other pantera owners! In Wyoming I am an oddity, all of my car friends only own new cars and don't work on theirs.

Welcome. Good luck finding another Pantera in Wyoming! I grew up in Western Nebraska, saw one in the local LM dealership's owners driveway around '73.
Lots of information on the forum about starters. Do a search. The PMGR starters are significantly smaller and lighter than stock. Worth the investment. The AC is a matter of comfort. The Pantera's windshield is very sloped so it acts like a sunroof. You may not need it since your summer's are kind of mild. Several owners have removed the tension pulley.
Get to know the vendors. There's an excellent one in Castle Rock, CO. Pantera Performance Center (Dennis Quella) and there's Pantera Part Connection in Nevada (Larry Stock). Botha are well known in Pantera circles. Pantera Place is an excellent resource for information.
I installed the Powermaster #9504 on my Dart Windsor as recommended by Ron McCall, I did have to re-clock it, and I did not use the optional shim that comes with it. As I recall, re-install will be easier on the 351C, and the #9504 is compatible with both 351C and W, same flywheel tooth count.
We need A/C where I am, but I tend to agree with you on possibly deleting in your case, except for possible resale considerations. But obviously, you still need to get the alternator pulley lined up. I recall some other thread within the last year of a similar issue, though I think it was on the DeTomaso list instead of here. I seem to recall the consensus was to either shim and/or grind down one or more of the bracket bosses to align, or a Pantera vendor may simply have a better bracket as Husker notes.
Thank you!!! I am VERY excited to get this car going!!! so far I'm just replacing parts. Dad keeps sending upgrade he would like, but at this point I just want 5998 drive-able! I would like to see the road this summer! Upgraded oil and cooling systems will come later. I have been in contact with Dennis!!! I believe he was the builder of 5998! Unfortunately his records aren't up to date with current technology so finding what was exactly done is proving difficult. You are correct, our summers are very mild compared to down south. so ac is not detrimental. My goal is to see some track time with her!! nothing competitive just fun. In which case, Ill be sweating from the elevated heart rate a performance car brings!! Thank you again for the insight! I will start chasing PMGR now!! Thank you!! I hope to meet you in person someday!!
Thank you buttondoor!!! I love this!! My addiction in life is working on cars!! I wont get into how much I love going fast!! This is great! I will go with your recommendation! I can make it work! especially when I have to work with what I have!! We have so many mustang parts, I can do this!!! Thank you for responding! one day I will buy you a drink and we can share stories!!! OH!!! the SNAP-ON truck is here with pantera tools!!!!
Welcome to the forum. I just finished moving my alt down to sit by the compressor. I ended up moving the holes on the bracket back about a 1/4" to get the AC pulley to line up with the crank pulley.
