Hi Guys,
I've recently purchased a Pantera from the States to send to the UK, the main reason is because almost all Panteras in the UK and more so in Europe are priced significantly higher often 50% more. I did see some in the UK but they were very over priced, I recently saw one for £30,000 around $45,000 for a very poor car and it really was a very ordinary with few of the essential upgrades that a Pantera needs for modern day ownership but the guy sold it and the new owner has spent very little on the car and is now asking £49,000 round $75,000.
I was expecting the cars in the States to be described as perfect when they were in just good condition and very good when they were just OK but I was pleasantly surprised to find the cars were described very accurately and asking the right questions I'm sure also helped,I think this is because you guys actually have a choice of cars when looking to purchase but we don't so subsequently all cars sell in the UK and very fast as well, you lucky boys, any way Panteras have started to increase in value over here and no doubt this will continue in the States as well so let's just wait and see.

Have you seen your car in person yet? All the cars I have looked at from the states have been in poor condition for the money. When they say it is good condition it really means very average. I bought two Mustangs and a pantera, looked at others when looking to purchase and I was disgusted in the way they were treated. They are driven into the ground. They will keep them running just long enough to wear absolutely everything out until they finally just stop. It surprises me how panteras in particular could be treated and repaired so poorly for the type of car that they are, but maybe it's just me that think they are better than that.

Anyway I will get off my soap box and say yes, the prices are going up! Smiler
Thanks stelios101 rising prices is good news for some, IMHO most Pantera owners want their cars and would not sell them at any price ( well almost any price Smiler ) Glad you are happy with what you got. You can get in real trouble if you don't look closely at a car that you don't know. Most of us will take a look at a car that is close to us, and let you know what we think.Hang out hear there are good people and a lot of great info. When I cross the pond I will let you know.
I recently consulted an exotic car store owner who is also a friend of mine about a new purchase...he told me to buy up all the early model (small bumper) Panteras I could as they would bring a nice return on investment.

Since I am not "in the business" and already have the Pantera I want, I did not take his advise and instead purchased a Ford GT (from another Pantera owner). :-)

Hey Tom! Hope you're loving the GT still. There's a very wide empty space in my garage now! Perhaps I can put two chrome bumper Panteras in there!

Panteras do seem to finally getting some value bumps, long after the Mangusta rocketed ahead. I'm seeing more $60k+ Panteras out there, with a few well north of that. (Fantasy Junction has one for about double, super low mile original.)

Europe seems to pay more for a few other cars than US, notably Pantera, Ferrari BBs, and E types (which I just purchased.) Interesting to watch.

Yes...I am pleased with the FGT and interaction/transaction!
What are you stalking for that spot?

Just got a Series 1 E-type convertible, in opalescent blue. Having some things done to it. Would like a 993 C2S or a tt as a driver. Had my sights on Z8s about a year ago, apparently that ship has sailed as prices have moved beyond 'fun' value to me. Keep me in mind if something weird and vastly underpriced appears on your radar! Don't tell my wife about the Jag (as she loves them)...and funny, Z8s have been on my list too...but same issue...$s!
Does your E-Type have the opalescent silver blue exterior with a navy blue interior? I love that color combination -- for those that have seen it -- it is striking.

I had a 64 E-Type roadster that was that color scheme. Both the convertible top and the top cover are supposed to be made out of the same material -- navy blue fabric. It looked really good on the car. My car also had the sewn in lead shot in between the rear window and the rear most top bow -- reproduction tops can't have that -- needs to be sewn in as the top is installed. That's how they did it at the factory. Let me know if you'd like to see a photo of this from my 66 E-Type roadster. Fun cars -- I'm just too damn tall for them.......

A Hudson,
Love the E-type, my cousin had a '63 silver blue with the navy top, restored and sold years ago (and sorry he did as he'd like to have it back). The Z-8 while attractive with the roof down just seems too tall or upright with the roof up and the prices are just nutty. About 3 years ago just goofing around on ebay, I put a bid on a reasonably low mileage 2002 Jag XKR which ended up not meeting its reserve. To my surprise, the owner contacted me and said they would accept my offer of just over $15000. Since it was about a 5 hour drive from me up to San Jose, I rented a car that I could drive up and leave at Hertz if I liked the car, and then drive the XKR home. I got there and found a stunning, nearly mint condition (poorly touched up scratch on rear quarter and curb rash on the wheels were the only things that kept if from being a perfect car) convertible. It has become my daily driver and is the reason I don't drive my Pantera much anymore. It's extremely comfortable, classic E-type inspired looks, almost 400hp, easy to get in and out of as I'm 6'-2"--220lbs, effortless driving. At some point I'd like to get a 5.0L (2010-2013, 510-560hp) coupe so that I could take it to the track. The depreciation is so staggering in the first 2-3 years that they're quite affordable. The funny thing about my 2002 is that I probably paid less for it that a five year old Camry, and I've put an additional 70K miles on the car in the 3 years. Enjoy the E!

Pics of the Jag!
This forum eats up a ton of 'viewing' space to requote all of your awesome comments, so here's a summary:

YES I'd love to see photos of that E type! Mine is Opalescent blue with navy leather, navy top. Was considering going with black top as potentially too much blue going on.

LOVE XKRs and half way looked for a coupe for years. Prices incredibly attractive, and what a great driver. Glad it has been so reliable, and sounds like you got it toward the end of it's depreciation curve.

Tom, why am I not the least bit surprised you like Z8s!? Too similar. Had a guy offer me a blue/crema one with some miles toward the GT plus $50k. When I accepted, he weenied on me, kinda spoiled things.

For now, the E type has my attention.

Sorry to go off-topic, back to Pantera pricing!
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses, I think I was at an advantage when I was looking for my Pantera because I had already owned one so I knew many of the important questions to ask although I must say buying a Pantera (besides the RUST issue) is very different from buying most other cars the Pantera was ground breaking in it's day in the sense that it was mid engined and had an American engine mated to a German gearbox with Italian electrics many people regarded the engine as not being thoroughbred enough but the gearbox was, the styling being exotic but the electrics very poor, how wrong people were about the engine, it is because of the engine that you guys in the states took the Pantera to heart, you were and are able to greatly improve this part of the car with ease, can you imagine having to rebuild a Ferrari or Lambo that's 40-45 years old and don't forget they also have those infamous Italian electrics, the gearbox although a decent piece of engineering even though it is expensive to rebuild but so are Lambo and Ferrari boxes, and the most important factor is the relative ease of maintenance something NO Lambo or Ferrari can offer but I would like to point out because the prices of Lambo's and Ferrari's have increased significantly this has rippled down to Pantera prices, this now has a two fold effect because the poor Pantera's will now be a viable proposition to restore instead of breaking them for parts as well as making current owners ask for more when selling but I do hope the Pantera owners don't go the same way as the Jaguar owners, let me share this with you guys, I am lucky enough to own an E-Type V12 Roadster as well and as a member of the biggest Jaguar club in the UK I asked for some advice from fellow owners besides one guy I never got one single response, then I realized why, they only had 25,000 members, yes I did say 25,000, how sad is that?
Anyway keep up the good work guys because Pantera owners like you allow me to have the car of my dreams, thanks guys.
Auctions can sometimes bring up strange results and naturally the sale depends on how realistic the asking price was and the auction fees on top as well, Often auction house struggle sell middle of the road exotica like Pantera's because not enough enthusiasts are attending and Pantera's are still seen as upstarts in the exotic car world.
In the UK and Europe ALL Pantera's that are reasonably priced sell the overpriced one's do not or take much longer, anyway all the signs over here are that they are steadily increasing, good news for the owners but not so good for would be purchasers.
