Is anyone here running the power steering unit that Wilkinson installs? My car came with it on it and I am finding it to be too sensitive for my driving style. Looking to see if anyone has played with this unit and possibly knows of a way to adjust it? If not I am thinking of removing and putting back a non power rack.
Thanks

I have not looked into it but there are internals to the power steering which can reduce the force tuning the feedback to what you like.

I am putting power steering on mine but the raq came from a smaller car. There is actually a lot to getting all the geometry correct. There is a lot more to it then simply swapping a raq. I should be painting the car in Fem or march so the final install won't be till this spring.

Correct about the valve. Since the rack and pump should be matched but few are on a conversion such as the Pantera, a flow reducer valve is needed. Speedway Motors sells one specifically designed for the unholy street-rod combination of a Ford Pinto rack (needs 3 gpm) and a GM pump (puts out 4 gpm). When Gary Hall began doing a few conversions like this in the '80s and was unsatisfied with the results, I mentioned using a needle valve to find the flow rate that gave some power assist without over- or under-boosting. Remember you're dealing with up to 1000 psi, so use premium fittings!
There were two kits. Wide body. Stock body. Stock body gets the valve. You have the wrong one OR you have the first one and the valve wasn't in the kit yet.

Either way, problem solved.

My guess, I think this valve is going to be like the Corvette/Shelby adjustable (competition) rear brake proportioning valve. That's a $120 valve and is a Borg Warner piece.

That one is adjustable with two wrenches on it.

There is another one from Tilton I think that has a knurled knob on it so that you can adjust it without the wrenches.
