last weekend I finished a design I had been working on in my head for some time. After installing the new Engine and having to experiment with the timing, including test drives. I found it more convenient to have a removable center cover. The 'Full Length' fiberglass and black vinal Wall cover remains in place eliminating the need to remove the seat belts and lower skirt screws; as well as the handle for the change-over valve for the reserve fuel tank. There is JUST enough clearance to remove the 10 screw bolts and the center steel cover. The central fiberglass/Vinal 'Bubble' fits perfect enough that it 'Snaps' into place and requires no other means of support. This is NOT a hack job! I am very pleased with the results and would do it again. It takes a lot of guts to cut into a prestine Firewall Cover. The finished look is undetectable by all but the most attentive to detail, as the 'break' is along the original seams. Progressive pictures and detailed instructions of how to perfom this modification will be posted here if there is an interest in duplicating this custom fabrication. Access to the engine is now, much easier from this point forward.
