After fighting with the retaining clips for WAY too long during my suspension rebuild, I ended up carefully uncoiling the clip somewhat and slipping one end of the clip over the boot into the recessed area. I squeezed and pushed on the boot to reduce the effective diameter as I slipped the clip little by little around the boot and into the recess. I also used a little Armor All on the outside of the boot to make it slick so the clip would more easily slip around the boot. I don't know of a better way to describe the method I used.

Good luck.

Ron
I don't see why it won't work if you can get it tight enough, which you should be able to do considering the springs don't really hold it all that tight.

For prototype ball joints we use a tube cut in half, lenght wise, that goes over the boot seal. The retaining ring will slide over the split tube over the seal. Using anouther tube push the ring down and it will snap into place. If your split tube is sized correctly it will slightly squeez the boot seal to allow some room for the ring to slide over and into the boot seal ring grove. If you need rings please contact me.
