Steering wheel in/out play under spring tension and question about lower bushing

I think your retaining clip has moved from its groove in the column. I had this happen to mine.

Yup, that is your problem child.

grab an 11/16” open end wrench and a hammer and tap it back into place.

Sorry Larry, I'm confused; isn't it in place now?
The groove on mine seems wider than yours.

The groove is minimally smaller than the steering wheel end of the shaft. Very slight groove.

I thought you had a larger groove when I first looked at the photo but I do not think that is the case. I think your snap ring has slid out of the groove towards the front of the car.

Easy enough to find out with a wrench and a hammer😉

Weird. My groove is twice the size of the spring clip:

at this point I think I would measure the OD of the groove and locate appropriate snap rings in an effort to get a combination to fill the groove.

just an other snap ring or 2 will do

washer means ..get all stuff out..and it is painfull

Did you re-install the spring under the new steering wheel adapter?
