Trick to getting replacement seat track wheels back on

I recently changed out the rollers in my driver’s seat with some I made out of “bearing grade” nylon.

I had a tough time deciding on what to make my out of. I read several post on different wheels from steel, bronze, to some sort of plastic/composite.

I special ordered a one foot stick of “bearing grade” nylon for less than $5 to see if it would work. If it didn’t I would go to plan B and spend the $30 on a foot of bronze rod.

When I received the nylon rod I had a terrible time getting the nylon to cut straight. So my first four rollers were a little rough looking. My second set is currently being cut down on a buddy’s lathe – so they should be much better.

Long story, longer – when I went to put the rough cut rollers in the slides for a test fit I had a heck of a time getting them together. I found a post by “Pittcrew” that mentioned that the rollers should be OD .950 with a width .620. My OD was slightly under so I could not figure out the issue.

I cleaned and recleaned the tracks and finally realized that the tracks themselves had a slight bow in them. Once I straighten them on an anvil they went together much easier. I then put them back on the driver’s seat and bolted it in. I am very happy with the way the seat slides now. Hopefully, these wear better than the stock ones.

Thanks for the insight Garvino, I will re-check the OD on the steel pieces when I get home and put the rails on something flat so I can see if there is any bow at all.
