Yes, some owners have completely rewired using aftermarket kits as a starting point.

However, before going into this discussion you should know that there are still thousands of Pantera's operating without any problems using the stock wiring harness, and for that matter, there are also thousands of Pantera's using the stock fuse box assembly. Copper wire does not wear out from use, although wiring connectors often can stand inspection and cleaning to improve their conductivity.

Can you share with us the current status of the stock wiring system, and your motivation for installing a complete after market system?

We are here to help you, but undertaking such a vast project without truly needing to do so may not be the best use of your time.

In fact the harness itself seems ageless.

Some of the old components can use updating both for function and reliability.

Putting in an aftermarket harness is just attempting to reinvent the wheel.

Unless his factory harness is burnt up, hacked up,damaged beyond repair or missing completely.

True enough, but what I read is that he wants to replace his (as in existing) to "start fresh".

That's (the original Pantera harness) about a $2,800-3,000 harness to remanufacture now.

That is all marine grade copper strand wire. It isn't junk. It was about the highest quality harness that could be manufactured then and probably still is now.

The modular components that it plugged into though have in the past and still do cause issues that generally get blamed on the harness and can damage it.

There are alternatives now to them that do improve greatly the overall dependability, reliability and even the ergonomics now though.

That is not a harness issue. Anyone is best advised to leave the original harness alone and deal with better, updated components.
