I'm trying to remove the bellhousing from the transmission. I removed the (5) 17mm nuts and then there are (2) 8mm Allen bolts on the inside of the bellhousing that won't budge. Are they left hand thread?

It has been many years since I’ve dealt with those bolts, but I do not recall them being left-handed thread. There is no logical reason why they would be designed in that matter.
As a side-note on this topic, I took the advice of other owners, and did not reinstall those two bolts. This will allow future removal of just the ZF instead of also having to remove starter, clutch linkage, etc. I did this probably 15 years ago and there have been zero issues.

Thanks Larry, I had my son standing on the ZF and the Allen's broke free. I will take your advice and forgo installing them. ( right hand thread)
IIRC, installed either studs, or bolts with the heads cut off to give myself some amount of alignment, but the bell housing can slide off.
The only time those bolts take any load is in reverse, again, IIRC!

Thanks rocky I was able to get those Allen bolts out with brute force.
Separating the ZF, one has to move it back considerably farther to clear the bell housing with the input shaft and the Allen bolts are the only two fasteners below the input shaft center line, personally I choose to put them in as it really isn't that much more work to remove the bell housing with the ZF.
I needed the bell housing so I can mount a starter and put my engine on a test stand. We want to make sure there are no issues with the new motor. Once that is done the bellhousing will get polished.
heating the bellhousing on the place of the bolts with a burner will helps, maybe they mount them with Locktite ? steel and aluminum will frozen quick when mounted whitout grease.

You are correct that would have made the job easier. I'm going to buy a set. Did manage to break Allen bolts loose with a "T" handle hex and adjustable Crescent wrench.
T handle hex twisted , not strong enough , the tool from matg is needed ,
believe it's 6 mm and a 1/2 inch square , on this better buy one good quality, than a cheap set, otherwise it destroy your insert from the bolt
