I’ve been into cars since my first memories at four or five years old. it’s actually my exact 1974 DeTomaso Pantera GTS that my father bought brand new as a Ford engineer with A plan discount that got me into cars all those years ago. By the age of 16, I was car crazy, and as my career has progressed, I have had the pleasure of owning many special cars from different decades and countries.

I have found a consistent common denominator across car ownership, regardless of car type. True car guys are some of the best people out there. It’s something that often isn’t spoken about, but it’s a bond that makes one want to help out the other. The Pantera community is no exception, and I am greatly thankful for all who contribute and give back.

I have formed a special friendship with another silver and black 1974 GTS owner. What makes this a bit more special is we both live in Austin. And what makes it truly rare and unbelievable is he bought his as a Ford employee new, just as my father did 50 years ago.

Today when I was having issues following a drive, he drove his over to my house within the hour. There we had 2 of potentially 40 of the silver and black GTS’s brought over together.   Both bought new and effectively one owner. The only thing more special than having those two cars together was his help and willingness to drop everything for a fellow car guy.

That is a great story and memory. I remember when my dad back in 73 took me to a LM dealership is Seattle about 30 miles away from where we lived to see my first Pantera. It took forever to get there. But once there I have never forgotten the excitement and memories going through my head. WOW that is a great looking and fast car right next to an old man's land yacht. I want one of those! I still have the brochure with the salesman card stapled to it. And now today after almost 50 years I too have one of those great cars. It is lots of work but that is why I love it. I mis my dad and will never forget that moment in time. I can only hope my grandson will love cars like I do, but video games seem more important.
