When De Tomaso Automobili was closed by Ford, De Tomaso kept building GTS cars under De Tomaso Modena using leftover Ford chassis. I think those are 7501 to about 7700 (others on this forum would would know better than I). When the Ford chassis ran out in about mid 1976, they went to Carrozzeria Maggiora.  Maggiora cars were all GTS models too, as far as I recall, and their VINs should be from 9001 to perhaps 9099 (clearly there is some debate on this - Simon in his post above says 9180). It has been speculated that it was around mid 1978 that De Tomaso switched to Carrozzeria Embo, who they then stuck with through to the 90 Si. Depending on who you talk to, the switch from Maggiora to Embo happened either because there were quality problems with the Maggiora cars (too thin steel in the chassis leading to a recall — at the owner’s expense) or else because De Tomaso was not paying his bills and so Maggiora stopped work.

The Maggiora era was when the gradual transition to the squared-off rear wheel wells and the wider rear license plate happened as the leftover Ford stampings ran out.

Thanks to a serendipitous talk Charles McCall had with Mr Campana circa 2007, we now know Carrozzeria Campana also worked with De Tomaso from 1977 onward (1975 according to their website - see image below), and, from 1980 on, all Panteras were delivered to them for preparation such as rust-proofing, body decals, etc. They also did all the work to modify stock bodies to GT5 and GT5-S specs (they also did the Longchamp GTS).
