Just pulled out the original doorhandle tubs as the driver side had a crack and the plastic in general looked milky. I want to send the handles and the area around the lock cyliner out to be replated in chrome.

Does anyone know how I remove the lock cylinder so that I can send the surrounding area in?

Lastly-the little spring that sits om the metal rod is origional and looks like it should have broke yesterday. If anyone has a line on where to buy new springs it would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Though both are very similar, the left and right door handles are  side-specific.

to remove the lock cylinder from its housing you need to drive out the very small spring pin that attaches the cast golden piece to the lock cylinder.

some of the vendors sell a new spring and metal pivot rod, along with new plastic buckets.

here is one offering at PIM

make sure you take multi-angle photos of each lock during the process, notably the how the little spring on the lock cylinder is attached

Larry, thank you so much for the guidance. I did not realize that there was a difference between left and right. Fortunately, I did take photos and kept them separated so I should be good.

I already purchased the plastic buckets that came with rods from PIM actually. Do you know where I can get the spring from that sits on the rod?

also, any guidance on how to drive out the small spring pin on the lock cylinder? Thanks!!

I am disappointed that P.I.M. doesn’t include the spring with their buckets. I mean, they’ve gone to the trouble of duplicating the plastic buckets, machining a unique pivot pin and yet they can’t locate and include a five cent spring to make their offering complete??😡

rant over.

sorry, I do not have an immediate source for those springs. Perhaps a phone call to P.I.M. or another vendor?

driving the pin out is not very difficult. Find yourself a small finishing nail, firmly support the backside of the pin hole, and gently start tapping. Once you have it peeking out the other side you can grab it with pliers or a pair of side cutters.

As for the billet door handle tubs, there have been two sources to the best of my knowledge.

already referenced is the offering by Mark Johnson at IPSCO, but I do not think he is still selling them.

however they are still listed on his website so I would give him a call. Very nice man to deal with

another vendor who has offered them in billet, or at least he did, is Larry Stock in Carson City.

I have seen both of their offerings and when I bought my buckets, I purchased them from Mark Johnson.

Larry, thank you and I share the same frustration with the spring.message was sent to them earlier.

I have the pin out and actually did the same thing you suggest above. I am wondering how do I get the door key  cylinder out from within the square chrome piece so that I can send just the square chrome piece in. Apologies for any confusion.

Now I am confused, but apology accepted😉

if you have removed the black spring pin you need to then remove the thin, round spring and the golden end piece. Then the lock cylinder is totally free and should push out. If it does not push out that’s because it has 50 years of grime holding it in the square housing. Lubricate it or tap gently.

Larry, your confusion is on me. When you were speaking to the pin, I thought you meant the pin/rod that goes across holding everything together which I’ve already removed. I made this mistake in understanding given the removal process sounded the same!!

now I am realizing you are referring to a pin, holding the spring in place on the cylinder. I will take a look and thank you!
