I recently installed a long throw clutch slave cylinder and noticed that my clutch master cyl was not retracting all the way back.I disassembled it and found a lot of black goo(deterioration of the o-rings).I cleaned everything out and I'm ready to assemble it( no pitting). My questions are in the Technical Service Bulletin book (article 89 page 9) under "clutch pedal effort reduction kit" it states that the return spring fitted around the push rod should be discarded. Should this be done? I have a 74 with a reduction kit installed at the factory. If this were to be done what keeps the rod in place? Also where can I get those 2 o-rings that are inside. I hope someone outthere can help. Thanks for you're time...

I found the spring necessary for proper functioning in my stock unit. Also, I also "thought" that my stock unit had no pitting on close visual inspection, but when put back it still didn't hold the pressure over time. Just beware, that if you put it back, even correctly with new rings, that it still may not function properly. I had mine in and out about 5 times, before I finally went to a new stock unit (now realizing I should have done that in the first place anyway, to help minimize back pain from the continuous rocker panel pressure). But I hope you will luck out better than me, and you will have a quick fix.
I wouldn't bother to discard the spring, since the 'mouse-trap' spring up on the clutch shaft (under the dash) normally breaks quickly, leaving you with no other retraction spring. Whoever sold you the aftermarket long-throw unit should also have rebuild kits available. You will likely NOT be able to buy them elsewhere since the actual source of the long-throw slaves is a cloely-guarded secret by all the Pantera parts vendors, but should not be expensive in any case.
