A previous owner after a repaint buffed the ID plate inside the driver's door. The embossed serial number was not damaged, but the printed info is pretty much gone. I see that most of the venders sell replacement ID plates. However when I inquire as to if they can emboss the vin # , they say no and can not tell me who can. Any suggestions?

Some of the carb restorers like Pony Carbs have the stamping tools to do it.
They might not like the idea of it when you approach them but they can't shoot you over the phone.
There is also a guy that does the plates for the shelbys, "Back East", I believe. He probably will with documentation.
(He gets $300 for a plate the last time I looked)
