Might as well get into my next subject of doing a new engine. I recently bought a set of ported and polished Yates heads with Jesel rocker arms, raised ports etc.. I also got the Pantera headers and intake to match the heads. Now my question is I want to do an aluminum block, do I go with a Windsor setup and stroke it out or stick with aluminum Cleveland block (Fontana). I also want to do an EFI IR set too. At the moment I know the availability of Windsor stuff sure out weighs the Cleveland so I think I kinda answered my own question....

What deck height do the heads and intake match?

Which version of Yates heads do you have?

I'm not sure what sort of Windsor stuff you think you'll
be using with your Yates top end, race block and stroker
crank. You'll need custom pistons, an SVO type crank
with 351C mains, 6" SBC journal rods, a Pantera oil pan,
etc.

The Windsor block will require some addition parts and
some modification to the car. You'll need a remote
thermostat and will need to alter the water tubes.
Your Cleveland oil pan won't fit, etc.

I'm told Fontana sold his block tooling to Shelby who had
it modified to be more like a 351W (takes a 351W oil pan now).
Might be worth a call just to see how many blocks Fontana
has left.

Tod Buttermore has cast up an aluminum 351C block which
would be a one-for-one swap with what you have but they
are still in development. The first batch has been cast
and are awaiting final machining (along with a cast iron
351C block).

I'd lean towards using the Buttermore block which would
require no alterations to the car and would keeping the
old engine as a back up.

I'm in line for one of Tods blocks. I sent a deposit when the project was announced. I was in contacy with Tod by e mail last week and there was some trouble with the casting if I understood him reply correctly. Tod is a man of few words but his reputation seems perfect. There are details and pictures on the cleveland site. If these blocks ever get completed, you have the cleveland architecture with modern updates. Maybe Dan can speak to the point of the potential of the buttermore blocks but I believe a 440 or 427 displacement in no problem. I think the aluminum was $2800 and the iron a little cheaper. I hope they're worth the wait.
Any news regarding Tod's block is also announced in our forums, in the Community News Forum: New heavy duty 351C block

Tod lets me know when there's new information to share and I normally just copy & paste it from the Cleveland Forum.

Tod has not committed to a delivery date yet.

You must understand, this is a project he is doing in his spare time, and he's invested tremendous personal resources in this project, in both time and money, all the while he has been recovering from a heart condition.

If they have an intake port similar to the 302B, then one of Kelly Coffield's
EFI set-ups should work for you. Last I heard Kelly had run out of the last
batch of manifolds and had not started on another run. You might want to
contact him and get in line for the next production run. BTW, Kelly is
Panterror on this forum.
