Engine cover for L model

do you have a photo or two please and can you tell me the difference between the L and pre L models for this item

An "L" center cover has a solid piece in the center, (with the wire mess on either side), and the front section towards the glass is in the shape of the air cleaner, somewhat.

i have a really nice pre L cover if you need one. mikedmayberry@hotmail.com if your car has the front rubber bumper then you need the later cover....

To use a generalization and say all "L" s have this cover is just not so.

There is a change over date. My car which is a '73 L has the early all mesh cover, as does Chris's and Bosswrench.

The changeover was made because Ford was taking warranty hits on engine replacements. With the all mesh screen it is possible to take water into the carb.

Water doesn't compress and engines were winding up with bent connecting rods as a result.

I don't think that the crossover chassis number, i.e., the first car with the cap on the screen, is known as of now?

I have a cross over car, twin dash, rubber bumpered.
did they make a cover with the bump to fit the early cars?

Mine is 4460 Chris, a '73L. Which one is yours? Bosswrench is about 100 cars higher then mine. I believe he also has some early features.

L bumpers, dual pod dash, early screen, early fuel pickup built into tank.

Hi Doug, I'm 4355 sept 72 car, rubber bumpers and twin dash, i didn't have a screen but think it was meant to have the all mesh on.
