If you haven't bought or reupholstered the Fiero seats yet, you may want to consider something. I'm 6' tall with a long torso. I had to bolt them directly to the floor and even had to pull the carpet and remove the carpet padding under the mount points to get enough headroom to sit in the car. Barely.

The Fiero seats are MUCH thicker in the lower seat cushion than the original seats. In my car there was no way any seat adjustment tracks were useable.

If you are shorter than 6' you may not have a problem, but I wouldn't even mess with the tracks until I tested them for fitment in the car.

On the other hand, I used the Mikes upholstry kit and they came out looking great. I used the seats with the speakers in the headrests (replaced the speakers with new ones) and it is definately the way to go. If I was doing another set, I would look into reducing the thickness of the replacement padding on the lower seat half to increase headroom.

I am only 5' 9" but with a taller torso and I find most of the non-DeTomaso seats (Fiero, C4 etc.) a challenge for fit. The best I have tried are a re-done stock seat (David B's car) and some leather Recaros in Bohdan's '74 — both of which are superb for headroom and comfort.

Take note that the increased thickness of the seat-back on many modern non-stock seats means the seats will be more upright than you might expect. The stock seats have quite thin backs and they tend to be more angled back (even though most have no adjustments). This will make a huge impact on your headroom and comfort.

I used Fiero seats (with speakers) in my '74. I cut the bulge off of the bottom seat pad with a hacksaw blade, which reduced the seat bottom thickness by about 2" if I remember correctly (it was about 10 years ago). I had a pair of Recaro seat tracks that I bent the 3 hole tabs on the ends to make the tracks completely straight. I bolted the seats to the tracks (had to elongate 2 holes in the seats slightly), then bolted the tracks to the floor using the middle holes on the tabs. It was a little difficult to move fore and aft as the seat was so low, it was dragging on the rug! I put 1/2" spacers under the rear tabs; problem solved (even though I never moved the seats fore and aft). The seats afforded more head and leg room for my 5'10" frame over stock and were VERY comfortable! I was able to move the seat bottom forward a bit (from stock) and recline the seatback more for a better seating position. The speakers were also awesome. I liked the Fiero seats alot. As a side note, I picked the pair up in perfect condition from a junkyard for $30. A rare handful of Fiero seats have power lumbar in them. I was jonesing for those!

Here is a picture of the lumbar seat, found in '88 (and other year?) Fiero GTs. Apparently they were only available for the driver, and only in grey or tan cloth (top is grey, bottom is tan).
