Well the GoodGuys Magazine people had their annual get together in Colorado this weekend. I polished up my freshly painted '72, rubbed down the interior with conditioner and cleaned up my mildly detailed engine compartment.
Roared down the highway getting waves from folks going the other direction. LOTS of Rods, Customs, and Muscle Cars coming and going. Looked like a good time ahead.
Big fairground site. Followed everybody in. Some folks directed left, some right. Was directed right by the glowering staff member. Right allright. Right onto a lousy dirt path leading to a massive open field full of prairie grass, gopher holes, and bumps much higher than my ground clearance. As you can expect, it was "concert parking" only much less organized becuase it appeared they had a fraction of the personnel they needed to keep things orderly.
Thanks "GoodGuys".
Needless to say, I told the first clown I came up to that I wasn't parking this car in this field and asked for directions the hell out of there. They will have to live without my $15 this year.
It turns out that the paved parking was to the left. Cars '72 and earlier were eligible to park in more civilized (and safer)conditions. The friendly staff member...whose job it is to do this weeding out...can't tell a crash bumber car from an non crash bumper car...even if he doesn't know a Pantera from Panoz.
Well, maybe next year...maybe.
