I need to replace the accelerator cable on my 1971 Pantera. I have the new cable. Any hints out there that will save me time and frustration. Thank you, Ron

Thank you. Even I can do that.....maybe.
Thanks for the help. I will take them all in and go slow. As a side note: My father worked at Quality Mercury, Bloomington, Minnesota when they were the 'delivery point' for most Panteras going to midwest USA Mercury dealers. I was 20 at that time and over the next year or so the new car manager allowed me 'test drive' a few around the block. Luckily I returned them intact.
On a side note question for the group, if a high rise intake manifold is to be installed on the engine, will it need a longer accelerator cable? If so, do our vendor sell an extended length cable?
Gunarun…. I don’t know…
BUT…. I have heard you get smoother operation, and longer cable life if you fabricate up a “cable guide” to mount onto the engine side throttle bracket, so the cable doesn’t have a sharp bend where it comes up in front of the engine and attaches to the block…

Ron…. Don’t most of the vendors carry them? I haven’t checked in a while…

Dear Gunarun,
Yes, Pantera Performance Center sells a longer throttle cable for carbs sitting on high rise intake manifolds such as the Holley Strip Dominator and the Parker 4V Funnelweb. You also need a taller throttle cable bracket with a high rise.

Excellent. Thanks guys.
Actually, while I was searching for the thread on the throttle cable bracket, there was also some discussion about extended throttle cable ferrules for a taller manifolds like you discussed.
Here's a Kirk Evans picture....
I just used a cable extension to get about an inch and a half additional length on my stock throttle cable required for my pedal box extender upgrade.
That might be kind of kludgy, though, if you have to use more than one of them…
