When I purchased my car, the owner said the wheels were rare, special-order racing wheels from the factory. I figured he was telling stories.

I stripped the tires off my wheels to get ready to repair/sell and discovered they were 15" wide. I thought they were normally 13.5".

Normal?

These are the wheels I am referring to:

The more common GP4/GT5 wheels are 13" wide and the less common ones you have are 14" wide. The measurement is actually taken from the inside of the bead lips.

Thank you for the info. Obviously I didn't know that. I was going to say "you learn something new every day," but I seem to learn more than one new thing. I am not nearly as smart as I was when I was 18. Smiler

So, I guess he was telling the truth. I didn't know they came in two sizes. Well, see I have learned at least two new things today.

No, I will need to measure the backspacing. Not sure what they "inboard edge" is, but Google probably will. Heh. I should be able to take a pic of the measurement so you can see if I am doing it correctly.
Robert. Is that you in the white bikini? You look good.

Put the wheel face down on the ground. Put a stick, a 1 x2, a 2 x 4 on top of the wheel from edge to edge.

Now measure from the bottom of the 2x4 to the wheel mounting flange. That is the backspacing.

I wouldn't expect anyone who looks like that in a biki to know this anyway. I suppose I am a sexist? Roll Eyes
Different manufacturers quote backspace in different ways, more often it is the mounting flange to the inside of the inner tire bead lip.

Less confusing would be to quote 'offset', the distance the mounting flange is offset from the centerline of the rim.

I have put on quite a few pounds of muscle since that photo was taken, but I still look good.

Yeah, that sounds sexist...but the truth is, when you look that good it is easier to get others to do silly stuff like measure "offset."

The wheels are in storage since my move, so I will try to run over there this weekend and measure. I will take a picture or two as well so it is obvious exactly what I am measuring.
I had a set of group 4 wheels on my Pantera and here are their measurements: front 10x15, backspacing of 4 5/8 inch and negative offset of 3/4 inch; rear 14x15, backspacing of 5 1/2 inch and negative offset of 2 1/32 inch. Hope this helps! Note: my wheels are now in Belgium, I did not feel like driving on the track with 35 year old rims at 185 mph!
