I have one of the earlier Hall Billet aluminum uprights for sale. The nice thing about the earlier uprights is that they will fit either side, where the later were side specific. I actually have both sides but one side appears to have a crack where the ball joint goes through. We saw it and removed it and even drilled it and put an allen screw to hold it in place. I have been told that guys have welded these sucessfully, but it is not something that I want to deal with. If someone buys the good one, they can have the other one. I'm asking $500. They are no longer available from Hall. But when last available they were about $2200 per set. You can PM me or call me 480-694-3552
Thanks, Kevin

Do you happen to know what alloy was used?

I haven't gone to the source yet but I was told the later ones were 7075 T6. Very strong but poor weldability. It's also pricey. I would have thought 6061 would have been more likely for a hunk of billet like that. You'd give up quite a bit of tensile strength but would have been more repairable. However you never get the material properties back in the location of the weld.

Not sure if the fellow that bought your uprights is planning to run them but the location you described would be a bad place to break; not that there's ever a good one.

The Hall uprights actually had a good reputation for strength. I would not hesitate to run mine and plan to. Rough streets do tend to administer a pounding, especially if you have Heim or rigid joints.
