After 6 months of hunting, I have found "my car". Please see the synopsis of my purchase below and a link to more pictures on ProvaMo.com.

Ralph Suarez, an officer of the San Diego Pantera Club, gave me the lead on this vehicle as he saw it at a car show in Belmont Shores (Long Beach , CA area) a couple of months ago and picked up a flyer.

I gave a call to Russ Sena, the owner. He purchased the vehicle in 1979 (29 years ago!) from the original owner, a studio executive at Paramount Studios, Hollywood. He said the original owner was frustrated with the car because it had "too many issues" and sold it to Russ.

When I spoke to Russ a couple of months ago, he told me that the car was at Precision Pro Performance for an MSD ignition install as well as the installation of jack pads front and rear. He suggested that I stop by and take a look at it.

I visited the shop and informed Don, the technician working on Russ' car, that all I wanted to do was just take a look at it and please do not let me disturb him from doing his work.

To make a long story short, Don spent almost an hour going over the car with me and what improvements Russ had made to it.

After 29 years, Russ had decided to sell the car, because he is now more into sailing and will use the proceeds from the sale of his Pantera to upgrade his sailboat.

Russ provided me with a few "odd" Smiler items, namely an original, brand new condition spare tire, tire cover, sun visors and the windshield wipers. The owner's manual is in absolutely, pristine, brand new condition. He also gave me a supply of fuses and replacement light bulbs. He also gave me a box of good, factory Pantera rotors.

Since the car has the factory wheels in an 8" and 10" width, I will probably immediately purchase a replacement set of tires. The tires on the car are in near new condition, but I know that replacement rubber is getting very scarce.

He also gave me the dealer Service manuals for the Pantera as well as a book that details every bulletin regarding service actions to be performed on the cars.

Lastly, EVERYTHING works on the vehicle. The car is in very good to excellent condition and shows tremendous pride of ownership.

It took Russ and I about 2 months to come to terms on price, but we finally did.

You got a GREAT sounding and looking car. You bought someone's joy and passion, passed to you for a check... the car was free! So much better to buy an enthusiast's car, full of documentation, recollections and intentional upgrades than the "unknown deal" on peebay or wherever. Good for you.

Likewise good for the seller who's sure of the caretaker.

Before I get too mushy, you CARELESSLY FORGOT to show us the engine! Keep the pics and the info coming, we've been where you are, and will enjoy seeing you enjoy the car.

You're at a great place.
Kerry,
Congratulations! I've only had my cat for 2 1/2 months, so I know you must be pretty stoked about the car, and I can tell you it won't wear off anytime soon.
She looks like a beauty, the yellow really stands out and I'm jealous of the fact you got the external fuel filler door - my car is 5754 and I have to reach through the rear deck to fill 'er up! :-)

I'm also jealous that you're in San Diego and get to enjoy the car year-round - us Canucks will soon be putting our cats into hibernation.

Enjoy, and keep posting pics!
Hi Russ,

I am absolutely thrilled with the car and my girlfriend/fiance/common law wife of 18 years loves it. She thinks of the car as a 4 wheel Harley.

I have owned 2-911's and a Boxster S but she did not care much about any of those cars.

I have never seen her get excited about any car as much as the Pantera.

BTW, last February she bought a 2008 Toyota Prius which she absolutely loves.

go figure Smiler

Hi Russ,

I admired your car when it first went up for sale. If it was on the "left coast" I may be driving it now instead of you! Smiler

My car gets cranky if it isn't driven.

Robert is right, mine starts off cranky when cold (getting just the right two shots of juice then playing the gas until she's warmed up is like a game of cat and mouse), but words can't describe how she thunders to life once she's hot, you stop to fill her up or to grab a cup of coffee, then climb back in, turn the key and ..... WOW!!!

The car really looks beautiful, and I am sure you will have many hours of fun. Do you plan on driving it often? My car gets cranky if it isn't driven.

R.

Sometimes I drive the Cat to work and I cannot wait to drive home.
