All,
A long (short?) time ago in a world where web searches actually produced results that you were looking for (instead of what marketeers think you should see instead)......... I ran across a site that was fixing ignition lock assy's and also the electrical portion on the back......
While my electrical section is fine, the actual lock section is dorked. My tumbler section is still fine. The casting that clamps around the steering column tube and supports the rest of the operations has an issue.
Normal operation has you insert the key, and as you rotate it thru its motion, the center of the lock tumbler moves inward and you rotate to OFF ON and START. When you go to remove the key you rotate the other direction from ON to OFF and then further where the center of the lock tumbler pops out and you can remove the key.
Over 50 years of operation, the "pop out" operation has failed on my car and many others I'm certain......due to wear of the casting internally. The ramp or such has worn away...... I'm required to jiggle and gently side load the key to get the center to pop out. Cursing usually works after a while.....
Supposedly, there was a biz that you could send your lock assy to and they would repair it........ but I'll be damned if I can locate that information now!!! The business was supporting early Mk1 Capris, I believe here in the US. Very reasonable repair cost......
Can anyone help with the information for such a biz???
Cheers!
Steve
