Does anyone know what a long throw slave cylinder costs at the vendors, and who makes the best one? What are the benefits over the regular cylinder? Thanks.

One negative is that it will increase your clutch pedal effort ~15% (read: push harder).
If the free play is set correctly and the clutch isn't releasing fully, a long throw slave cyl will help, but may not solve the problem.

Byars Bros did a great job with the one I got from them, polishihng it up & such. I had issues as noted in the thread below, but what the hey, I always have issues when working on anything mechanical. I forgot what I paid, but I had to pay for the polishing too. Clutch pedal pressure increased, but not that much, although my left thigh is now 28" compared to 22" right. I did before and after photos of regular slave vs long throw in the engine bay with it extended while the wife pushed in the clutch, and you can see the difference in throw. A worth while piece I would recommend. However, if there is more pressure in pushing the clutch, I always wondered if that put more pressure on the fluid lines & maybe other things.

I bought one from PIM last month to use as a back-up in case I needed to go that route. It is aluminum (the boot says CNC) and cost $159.50 + shipping. It does not come with a push rod.
After it arrived, I was looking at it and noticed that the bleeder screw would not seal. I discovered that the hole for the bleeder screw was not tapped deep enough. I called Jerry at PMI and he said to return it, but that he didn't have another one. I told him that I should be able to use a bottoming tap to fix it, but if that didn't work, I didn't want to be stuck with it. Jerry said that if my "fix" didn't work, just send it back.
I think that Jack DeRyke posted that Marino at Pantera East was having some long throw slaves cast in stainless steel, but I haven't confirmed that.
As I posted above, the long throw slave will increase the distance that the throw-out bearing moves, but at the cost of increased pedal effort.

I highly recommend the one from Marino of Pantera East, its a stainless assy with a stainless pushrod. Can be rebuilt.
I've also purchased a blue aluminum unit from PIM, no push-rod and you would have to use your old rusted one.
The clutch pedal is pressure is abit higher but you'll get use to it.

I purchased a long throw slave from Pantera East a few months back as well and seems to be doing good so far. I believe they also sold the bracket as well if you wanted the whole kit. I put it in with one of the CNC masters as well. There are a few good articles on here talking about it.
Larry, I had a 3/4" unit which came with the car when I purchased it that had never been installed. I purchased the slave based on searching through various threads in here, including one I started. So no it wasn't based on a vendor.
