anybody have this one ???

Quaife have never built one in the Pantera orientation, only GT40 applications. This gearbox was brought out when you just couldn't get your hands on a ZF due to demand for GT40 replicas and those who did were waiting 2 years to get their ZF rebuilt or flipped. It is dimensionally the same as a ZF and uses Porsche internals. There have been a few documented failures in GT40 replica track or racing use. Fact is you can now get a ZF for similar money so why settle for a substitute?

i assume we see the suction on pic 1 ( bottom ofcourse ) and the retour side ( above ) on pic 2 ? so oils circulate trought the complete box ? I have the same system with electric pump/cooler on my 928 transaxel.

So M1 and GT40 ZF's are flipped compared to the Pantera's... any reason ?

thanks for your unique experience ! So besides the parts, no further needs to have it flipped mounted ?
The bellhousing end of the M1 ZF case is also slightly different than the panteras, not to mention the coveted CV drive flanges.
My friend Louie has one in his Pantera. I'm not sure if he had a whole M1 tranny flipped or just found the case and installed his pantera internals. I lifted the image off the 'net, it's not from his car, so I cannot comment on the unique shifter arrangement

I ask the question because I have a contemporary RBT -2 in my SPF40. These boxes use the M-1 cases and most of the same internals. I’ve considered putting a transcooler on my 40. I’ve seen the transcooler schemes used with the original -0ZFs used in the 40s (had unique mechanical pumps) just hadn’t thought about M-1s in quite a while. Don’t need transcooling on my PCar. But I do have other Pantera -2ZFs as well. I’ll give Lloyd a call.

ZFs were merely adapted to not designed for Panteras. The GT40 configuration was the as designed orientation and as JT says, immerses the critical parts in lube. In a street car like a Pantera, the primary reason for flipping the ZF is the engine sits significantly higher in the Pantera chassis compared to the GT40 and it serves for better ground clearance, accommodating driveline geometry, and chassis/suspension packaging.

Mangustas -1ZFs are in the original GT40 orientation and it’s pretty common to see their unique bell housing having been grounded at one time due to their engine height.

Best,
K
