What does the "Build-Date" tag on the driver's door say?

Bill, I really don't know. You would need to verify the build date to be a 74 model year wich would have started around June 73. More important, you would need to find out if the car's original destination for sale was California. The model year is fairly easy to track by VIN number but I don't know how you could tell if it was originally destined for California without a MARTI report.

Your VIN breakdown looks pretty good except I'm pretty sure they started the numbers at 1000.
So yours would be 4972 unit built.

Somebody with a lot more expertise in deTomaso history might chime in and prove me wrong but that's my understanding.

...Be advised, 'Some' 1974 L Panteras were built in 1973.
As was the case with My Cat, built in '73 But 'Titled' as a '74L.
