I am nearing completion of my 72 Pantera interior. It has been a deep dive to get the car's interior to this point. Here is a photo sequence in reverse order of of where it is at.

Hi Steve,
I think you make a mistake the conditioner motor belt must pass under the conditioner idler pulley and not above it (your last photo).
Yes, I understand. My setup will not withstand tens of thousands of miles. But it is unlikely this car will see that kind of mileage. The worst case is that the AC stops.
You'll probably throw the belt as the idler pulley is a v-groove designed for the inside of the belt.
I have run this setup on two cars without issues. Others have done this as well since the original AC pulley bearing became hard to find. The flat pulley in the picture works well with the top side of the belt. The setup in my last photo came with the car when I got it. Ipsco.com now offers the original style bearing and pulley and I can use that if needed. The photo above is a closeup.

FWIW, I agree with Steve. I deleted the idler pulley entirely over 20 years ago, and adjust belt tension by sliding the compressor back & forth on its slotted holes. As Joules said, belt alignment becomes critical but still quite do-able.
