I'm putting together a group buy of magnetic roundels. (and maybe vinyl numbers also.)
Roundels = white circles that racing numbers go on.

I don't want to have the Mike Drew experience where I go to pull off the vinyl numbers, and take paint with them. Which is not an uncommon experience, I have heard.

So I'm putting the numbers on magnetic white roundels. These are meant to be re-useable, and re-locateable.

I've already tried the first set, and have pictures of them in numerous places around the car.

With track season almost here
and the Vegas event almost here
many of us need numbers.

If you are interested, contact me directly, and soon.

Hi Chuck,
I'd like in on the deal with the magnetic number panel(s) and vinyl numbers. Can I just mail you a check and pick them up at Vegas, either the track (probably easiest) or the hotel (The Orleans). I'm arriving Wednesday evening sometime and will be at the track at 7:00AM Thursday, like the schedule says to be. Man, that's early, and an hour's drive, too. Can you please confirm? You know more about it than I do, so however many number panels and numbers are required, I'll be happy to pay for. It'll look cool in my garage until Vegas 2006, after Vegas 2005, so cost isn't so important. Unless we're talking $100's, then I'll just use masking tape and spit on it first so it doesn't stick too much....
Thanks,
VFI
Oh yeah, I sent you a direct e-mail, so I hope to get the message to you, either way. Thanks again, I forgot about that detail. Taxes are fogging my concentration about now....
I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but I haven't gotten a response to six e-mail inquiries going back to 3/5/05 and thru 3/10/05. Thus I researched this matter and I am sharing the info here. There's no need for a group discount when the prices are this low anyway.

www.PegasusAutoRacing.com

Pegasus has the 21" roundel at $17.99 (p/n 3365-21) and the 24" roundel at $21.29 (p/n 3365-24) and 10" vinyl numbers at $5.99 each in 7 font styles or a 12" X 14" sheet of sticky vinyl sheeting for $3.99 (p/n 3352-Color).

Now, no one has to rely on anyone else to get prepared with this detail, and no one gets upset because others don't share information or return communications. Why try to save $10 and get involved in this 'group purchase' thing? Now, we just meet at the track and rely on ourselves to prep our vehicles and go for it on the track. Thanks anyway.

3/5/05, 3/8/05 and 3/10/05 e-mails to ProvaMo72, 3/8/05 e-mail to ProvaMo72DELETETHIS, 3/8/05 e-mail to Melton01, and 3/10/05 e-mail to Pantera007.
Since I am the original poster, I am happy to reply. I have received no e-mail from you, that I can tell.

I searched for anything close to VFI, but have received nothing. I have heard from two Rons, a Mark, and someone else. What is your human name, so I can cross you off the list of interested people?

If you notice the e-mail address I listed,
ProvaMo72DELETETHIS@Earthlink.net you should
realize that you REMOVE the characters "DELETETHIS".

Recently I visited another car forum, where the forum makes e-mail addresses easily available.

(For some reason, the PI BB is not like it was, when you could just click on the posters link - and e-mail them directly.
Am I missing where we can still do this ???)

Anyway, what this other forum does is automatically insert something like REMOVETHIS or DELETETHIS in everyone's e-mail address. WHY ? So the auto-surfing spam e-mail address sniffers record the wrong e-address, and the person does not get tons of SPAM.

(I once posted on craig's-list and got 5 spams within 60 minutes!) SPAMMERS WORK FAST, and don't let go!

Seemed like a good idea. I thought I would try it, thinking that someone reading the e-mail address would note the technique, DELETETHIS.

Instead it failed with you. I Live n' Learn.

I have received a couple of inquiries, and I am waiting for final pricing. I would not want to qoute a price, only to have to change it later.
A DeTomaso person has a vinyl sign business, and I only received his pricing reply today.
If you are in a super hurry, GO FOR IT!

As to roundel sizes, 21 and 24 are likely TOO BIG for the doors or side area. Measure your own car.

If Pegasus seems reasonable enough for you (anyone), go for it.
My e-mail address Melton01 was killed about a year ago, TOO MUCH SPAM. ProvaMo72 (plus the ISP name) still works, and probably the Pantera007 one does also. But no mail with this subject thru 007 yet.

So, don't get angry at me. Fulfill your needs anyway you like. I offered to organize this, but it seems like saving $10 - $25 is not as important as it might be.

Pick what suits you. I have.

If you are also on the DeTomaso E-mail Forum, a knowledgeable person posted some hints about how to get the most from magnetic and vinyl signs like this (avoid scratching, paint damage, etc)

"DELETETHIS" Sincerely, (Grin)

Hi Chuck,
Thanks for the clarification about sizes. I just got my number assigned today for PCNC's Vegas 2005 Track Event, but by then Pagasus was already closed for the day, so thank you also for the timely response. I would have had time to re-order the next smaller size, which is the point. It's not about the money, it's about getting ready and having time to rework the project or reorder parts,if necessary. A contingency factor is extra time to fix mistakes. When I don't get responses to inquiries, it serves as a warning to me, and maybe others too.

My human name is Ron Norman and my e-mail is listed in the POCA Membership Directory, 2005. But, if you do a search of your e-mail in box, you'll find it, if it's not there, then there's a problem you may want to look into. And I still haven't received a reply to any e-mails from you, which makes me wonder? Is he getting my e-mails? Am I on the list? Does he not want to do business with me for some reason? Why doesn't he return communications? So, I say, I'll just do this myself and then I won't have to worry about relying on this man to get something I have to get. Less for me to worry about, one more detail accomplished. Why don't you just return a quick response, like say what the price is, confirm that a guy is on the list, and tell what the deadline cut-off date is, like the date the block order is going to be made? Ah well, don't worry about it, maybe the other Ron and Mark are comfortable doing things like that, but I'm not, so I'll order from Pegasus tomorrow, and start thinking about the next task, like packing a set of carb jets and small tools for lower altitude.... As I mentioned, I appreciate the fact you pointed out that 21" is too large, a nice thing for you to do.

No, I'm not on the POCA webring, I still haven't figured out how to do that yet. I did a search once, and it looked like a long conversation that was continuing about many topics all at once, I could not find what I wanted to know, so I just haven't made an attempt again. I lose. I missed good info. But now that you brought up that topic of protecting the paint from magnetic scratches, I think I'll cover the magnetic strips with scotch tape or put some car wax on the magnetic media. Thanks again for sharing ideas.

You have a nice website, Chuck, thanks for the effort. It's really improved since last time I visited it. I searched www.PanteraPlace. com looking for Part II of your story about the motorcyclist whose helmet ended up under your front bumper about six months ago. I'll check again sometime to see if I can read the conclusion of the story, last time your car was disassembled in front. Your car looks nice, now that I see it's out of the shop. I'd like to read Part II of the story sometime.

Communications are the key here, and I had to have a cut-off date for action, myself. Thanks for the postings here, where I visit and participate, I always learn something. I just guess we're different, but we share a common passion and hobby.

I'll see you in Las Vegas, and let you pass, if you're on my tail and honk! Keep your sense of humor, and keep up the postings dude.

Adios, and sorry I missed you on this one...
Ron Norman
AKA "VFI"
Hi Pantera1580 and Chuck, I'm going to ask the question about what speed these things will fly-off-at question at the technical inspection or the driver's meeting, whatever happens at 7:00 AM. I'm sure there will be tips flying about how to do this stuff when we get there, but I'm new and already getting butterflies about it, so I'm trying to plan way ahead, and maybe Chuck will see that too, like maybe it's not so much I'm angry, as just making a decision. I asked and didn't get an answer. About anything. So, I took care of it myself, and passed info along. Very simple.

I don't know how Chuck feels about it, but if his code of conduct means only he can answer your question, then I'll avoid that and start a new topic so everyone can participate. I'm confused.... Jointly, we contribute to these furums, when we're around, so the information is available in the future, just like the library: free, like thse forums. That's how the Topic in Alejandro's Neighborhood Bar was, the forum on 'Rub'N-Buff ZF Polishing", and when you went to the link in that thread, that's how they did it too. Everybody just keeps the topic on the subject, some with more humor than others, in that cool link I mean, and here too.

Chuck, maybe I am in the wrong forum here. Is this Parts For Sale and I'm not supposed to post here? Can you help me put this info in the other topics? Or will it be available in the future in this thread, for others to find when looking for info to get roundels? On second thought, I'd like to see an e-mail response to confirm if you're getting everybody's e-mails. I'd be happy to help out and buy in the group thru the Pantera guy's shop, but no response means there's a problem.... No response. Confirm back you're getting your e-mails and I'll confirm I'm getting yours back. Thanks.
Ron,

Boy you type long and FASSSST! Grin.

By the time I have finished your post, I've forgotten the first part. Getting old I guess.

Anyway, the only e-mail I have received from you (Ron Norman) was today, at 10:31am and 11:05am. Not much time to respond before the next one arrives, eh ?

Now note that I am on a dial up. Contrary to some opinion, I don't have e-mail from several accounts sent to my phone, or the brain-implanted chip. (That brain chip is for something else, grin.)

So I am sorry that I can't reply as rapidly as you desire. But then that is why it is so cool that this forum has so many qualified people willing to step in and help.

Hell, I don't care who posts on this or any thread, but keep it to the topic, or pick a new thread. That way future searches find it easier.

If you are the kind of guy that gets REAL excited about any fresh or current topic, and feels ready to jump on it, ASAP....
Go for it. Live your life as you see fit.

I was trained (ruined) by "Defense Intelligence" and Commercial Defense Contractors
where we are trained to figure (some/all ?) things out first, then move on it.

So my method on this topic was to gather interested parties names, do research, get a sample, try it out, analyze (or over-analyze)
review/modify/correct, then educate the parties on the list. How much, when available, options, schedule, etc... The Who, What, Where When, and Why... standard journalism focus.

THEN jump in, buy, distribute, review, correct if necessary.

But that is my way, satellite/space engineering.

Like you, I also get excited about something new, and become active, but if I hit a brick wall, or it becomes a hassle or no longer 'fun',
I step back and remind myself that I do this for fun. No longer fun ? I find the next new exciting "thing".

Back to this topic, I felt it necessary to find the appropriate sizes, and features, then get a sample, then test (drive the car at speed to see if it blows off.) then make my recomendation to others.

It was brought up that the magnetic style (versus vinyl) could or has blown off. Where I live, I see cars & trucks with magnetic signs on the doors, etc...ALL THE TIME. Have I seen piles (or even one ?) lost on the highways ? Ah NO. Where I live, people often drive 80-90 mph and more, as part of their regular lives.
So, although I think a speed test (before buying) might be enlightening, I don't expect disasters.
It has been wisely suggested to add a small piece of tape on the leading edge of the magnet.
Probably a decent idea.

I have other thoughts to improve the roundels...but I am kind of losing steam on this. Since you found a source at a reasonable price, and are ready RIGHT NOW. Then do it.

Then report back what you have learned.
Images of your result, options, price, delivery schedule, installing methods, lessons learned, storage and re-useability, (at least) should be reported.

I look forward to your post on this, in your typical detail, so I can learn from your experiences and knowledge.

To correct any possible misconception, PanteraPlace is hosted by Mike Dailey, and it is a WONDERFUL resource. I hope it continues.
My car story appeared there, initially, because it saved me from telling the story over and over and over ... While I got my website up and running.

My meager website (geocities.com/ProvaMo72) was meant to fill a temporary void, which it has done, to satisfy me, and apparently numerous others.

CRAP now I have written a long post, eeek!
Note that I only check back here (PIBB) every few days, or when time permits.
It is now a young child's bedtime, and I must tell a story or two.
Chuck
OK guys. I have used magnetic numbers for over 25 years. They will usually stay on up to 80 MPH. Mine are so old that I warm them to get them pliable enough to lay flat on the body. Cold days, I lay them over the defroster for a while. Warm days, I just let the sun shine on they until they are warm.

They do not stick good on thick paint, stone guard paint, or body putty. My Pantera has very thick paint so I use static cling numbers on it.

They do not stick good across body lines or moldings. I cut the numbers for my Escort so the molding runs through the center of the numbers.

To avoid scratching, I carry a spray bottle and towel to clean the surface of the car and the back of the numbers. Extra wax on that area of the car may help, too.

Also be aware of the fact that they may cloud your clearcoat, especially if it is sunny and you have a little moisture behind the numbers. One day in the sun is enough to see the cloudy outline of your numbers.

Give your course workers a break. Make your numbers large and legible. Use contrasting colors. Stay away from the artsy-crapsy stylized stuff. MAKE THEM LEGIBLE!!!

Go quickly and have fun.

Nice to have your insight, Jim, thanks for sharing, man, I learn from you.

Chuck, I'm doing high volume petty misdemeanor criminal defense, and people want to get out of jail right now, or come in a week before thier trial when they are facing jail, so it's haul a.. all the time. Like your 'business', probably not too pretty to outsiders if they think about it too much, all the details and whether it's right or wrong. I have to go fast.

I guess you and I have had a problem in the past and maybe I let my sketptical mind wonder, so I just took care of it. That's what I do, take care of peoples problems, and if I show up without numbers, or don't think about something in advance, it creates a problem. I'm ready for trial at least five times a week, and this is a speed trial for my thrills, so it's getting attention from me in spare time. Right now :-)

Do us a favor, and just get back to us and let us know when to expect something, so we can know we're being heard.

I'm a patient guy when I know what to expect. My cat's on jack-stands now, my half shafts are off, I broke my buddies axle nut removal tool, 2 new axle nut tools are coming from Florida. I got a new brake upgrade kit after waiting four or five weeks, and after disputing with that guy because he priced the freight way lower than actuual cost, I made him hoonor the deal, but he decided since I got firm with him, he wasn't going to be nice and throw in the dual stage vacuum assist brake booster and master, since they weren't in the original ad. So, it goes, have to get things done, the brakes are what I wanted, but no instructions came, and then Jim helped me out with pictures. Looking at the rotor hats, mounting inboard, showed that if I wanted ventilated cross drilled slotted rotors, I better put them on now while it's coming apart. So I ordered them too, only they have to be custom machined, so add another two weeks from Oregon. And I'm waiting for new wheels and tires from a California vendor who doesn't sponsor this BB, after carefully considering his 5 spoke wheel deal, I went with 10 spoke wheels, which had to be made to order, but that was faster than 8 weeks delivery time for Simmons "F" style wheels, 16" front, 17" rear, plus no air leakage from 3 piece construction. The pieces all arrive next week, but I can put on the new clear front turn lenses this weekend and change the oil. Next weekend, it's slam-time, total focus and effort, and I'll get the new braided ZF hose installed while I'm making a mess. Then I have to go get a headlight relay installed, and over to the body shop to get a weld done on a crack on the rear part of the frame by the sway bar bracket. While I've got the old sway bar off, that's a good time to get the weld done, and weld on the steel jacking pads underneath, while I'm there. They'll probably want to keep it over-night, then another day too. Then install the 7/8" sway bar which couldn't ship because it had to get chromed 1st from the another Pantera vendor I like too. And so it's going to come up and down the jack stands a half dozen times before leaving for Vegas, and my 2005 Pantera budget is then shot, like over by $1,500 to $2,000, so I'll be taking in clients on weekends and happy to meet them at 7:00 AM or 10:00 PM all thru the rest of the year. Heck yes, it's worth it. Budget blown, I'll get out my tin snips and fabricate some aluminum underbody panels and try to find the best solution for air-shocks to lower and raise the cat. Another buddy, actually a competitor in business, had a heart attack and the doctor said it's because he didn't have a vacation for 15 years. I'm going on vacation to haul a.. around the track with you guys, 1st vacation in 13 years. Another competitor said he's never done anything like this in his life, but has always wanted to go to Sturgis on his Harley and take his Indian.

Life is for living, and so I'm sort of counting down at age 47, and I'm going to Vegas every year, for my health, to have fun, to haul a.., to socialize a little, to learn, to get inspired by some people who have ideas, and to get time-goals and ideas for work on my Pantera.

When I'm dead and gone, my estate will auction off my Pantera, and it'll have electronuic paddle shifting on the steering wheel, 575+/- horsies, and have functional, adjustable ground effects, and it will outlast me and the next three guys who own it. Maybe last longer than some homes.

I have to do some home chores too. Painting, new HVAC heater, new water heater, and I'll gather intel and slam the projects out as fast as I can, so they'll get done and I can not worry about that stuff for the next twenty years, and just focus on my Pantera projects. And there are Pantera projects I can't even imagine, since they haven't even been invented yet.

Ever feel that way? Must have, you constructed that BB, Chuck. Jim's been going racing 25 years, so you must have too, Jim. Talk to you guys later, Ron 'aka' VFI
Some,,,,,body is ready for that week in Vegas.
Not to worry Ron, it will all come together. It always does for those that try.

And if you need my help, I'd be there for you. You guys gotta know something about Ron. Sorry Ron, but I have always wanted to tell everyone on this board about you and who you really are for almost 4 years now.

I went to Rons house and spent 4 days with him almost 4 years ago. I helped him with some projects on his car. We had a great time and took in a car show in which there was 6 or 7 other Pantera's there. We HotRod'd around like Pantera's do. :-)) While I was there, my alternator went out. He took me to a friend that managed a Napa. I bought a 105 amp alternator for under 100.00 with the management discount with a lifetime warranty.

Doesn't end here.

On the way home from Albq. NM to Peoria AZ in my now monster, I had a mechanical fuel pump go out about 140 miles w. of albq. Bum F Nowhere. I'm on the side of the road, I-40, 2 AM at night, car jacked up, underneath with a florescence light plugged into the battery, Simi’s rolling by at 80+, 25 feet away.... and who drives 140 miles one way to bring me a fuel pump and another jack knowing he has to be in court at 8 AM in the morning while trying to help me fix my now real monster until 5 AM.

This, Mr. Ron Norman.

I'd be there for you in a minute Ron. It'll come together brother, if I have to come to Albq. and help you. You will be in Vegas this year with your car.

So guys, sorry for the long post, I sound like Ron now. But I've always wanted you all to know about Ron and what kind of guy he really is.

And they are, hard to come by.

Chuck,
I'm going to do just that after Vegas, this year and every year. That's when I'll start experimenting with underbody ground effects and develop a version-1 kit. The full underbody panel for the Pantera will have to wait until higher $dollars are available. That's because it's going to have to be carbon fiber, expensive.

Maybe you have certain goals to fulfill and like doing stimulating stuff and want to be involved in a project with me, but you'd have to be on the ball, all-the-time until it's ready, because the project time table for product introduction is Vegas 2006. Probably strong plastic, pvc reinforced construction, using existing bolt holes as much as possible (seats, etc.).

Maybe you have it in you to get slamming on a project you really enjoy, or maybe you're not interested. I invite anyone interested in a Pantera ground effects package upgrade kit, and experimentation to contact me on this, but you must own a Pantera to qualify.

Coz, Thank you for the nice introduction to these guys you've been hanging out with at Vegas Track Events for years.

Best regards, and switch to this link for more information about the ground effects question:

I have never been to a POCA event in Vegas and I've owned 2 Pantera's, first one in 1974 for 3 years that I bought from Payton L & M Mercury in Long Beach, Ca. and now my GT-5 for 5 years.

Just know most of them from here, personal e-mails and talking over the phone.

This will be my first trip to Vegas and the POCA track event too buddy, and I'm in way over my head with these guys.

We just have a commen bond and most of us like each other. We help each other becasue we help ourselves. There are so many neat people out there that own Pantera's. Well, maybe not that Dave guy,.... :-) Just kidding David.

Maybe it's because we're all older that appreciate the car to begin with or the age that goes with it. Who knows, but this is what makes it even better.

Your cool man ! Think Vegas !
