Today was the long-awaited Montebello car gathering. It's not really a "show", but a bunch of Italian car owners from Montreal and Ottawa that have agreed to hang out together and be nice to each other one day a year.
We've had a pretty rainy summer in our area and the likelihood of the weather being good seemed low but this weekend the weather was beyond perfect. We were hoping to match our numbers from last year but several of our group had unforeseen family obligations, blown engines and just plain laziness that prevented them from joining in. Probably the closest margin of "will I make it, or won't I" was Denis and his gorgeous Mangusta. He had his transaxle rebuilt and decided it was a good move to replace the clutch as things were looking a bit worn from all of his driving (which he really does a LOT of). Everything would have been fine had the clutch shop actually given him the right pressure plate...
As it was, he managed to get the correct unit and was finishing his installation around midnight last night. When I arrived at his house this morning we still need to fine tune the shift linkage so he could choose from more than half of the forward gears. In a brisk 15 or 20 minutes we were on our way.
We arrived at Montebello (a fantastic and massive log inn/conference center on the Ottawa River half-way between Ottawa and Montreal) a bit later than we wanted, but only a few minutes later than the guys from Montreal who were kind enough to save spots for us.
There were fewer DeTomaso cars than last year but more of everything else so the gathering was almost the same size as last year, overall. I think everyone had a great time. I know I did.
