Since day 1 I disliked the original shifter knob!!! it looks more like it belongs on the stick of a three on the tree , at least to me! All other Italian sports cars, have such nice shifter knobs, especially if they are gated shifters.

So, in between of all the other mods/ repairs I do to the car I started a little fun project as well!

Solid aluminum 2 inch ball, M8 1.25 with a small flat spot for the thin locking nut and a 1” flat spot with a recess and rounded edges to hold the DeTomaso emblem!

I love it, and I think it suits the car so much better ….

...Huge Boobs can get in My Way, Anytime...Anyplace!!

Why the Sphere is the BEST Knob for Shifting! NO matter the Angle of the Shift Rod, the Sphere is Always Centered in the Palm of the Hand. Making it Possible to Develop a More Accurate 'Feel' for a Gear Selection. As some persons need to LOOK down at the Shifter, to Help them 'Find' the Correct Gear. Besides all, A Sphere makes a more Complete Contact with All Finger Tips, where the 'Feeling' takes place. And, It Just Feels Great!!

Yes! It may get Hot in the Sun, especially if One Sports a 'Sunroof'. As Stated, That is ONE reason I Always wear Leather Gloves.

I defy Anyone Here to just Try a Nice Solid, Weighted Sphere, Once...And then Go Back to That 'anemic' Leather thingy, just to be 'Correct'. Ha! I think Most will Never Go Back!2nd gear3rd gearkat 5th fifth gear

And above All...Mines' BIGGER!!

Yes! Mine is Slightly Larger at 2-1/4" SOLID Chrome Plated Aluminum. I did Cut Down the Rod, 1.0" and re-threaded it. The Rod also goes Into the Ball 1.5", to Shorten the 'Throw' even More. I Really dig it, Feels Right with the Glove!!

Right Now, I'am working on the Installation of an all New AM/FM CD Deck. Automatic Antennae at the TOP Left/Rear of the Decklid, can be seen in Pictures. Great Sounds.

@haydude the good old 8-ball.. so 70’s ✌️

I was thinking going with a few things from Pantera Electronics too.. I am just afraid if anything doesn’t work I’m totally out of luck… right now all the electric is caveman technology… I’m so torn…😩

right now I can trace the problem but after it becomes circuit boards I will be lost !

on the other hand.. maybe there are no problems anymore… what a joy 😁

Here is a Delrin shift knob that also works as a shift shortener.

Because the thread is inserted much deeper internally then a normal shift knob, it lowers the total height of the shift rod assembly and as such shortens the lever throw.

Delrin never gets hot and never cold and is virtually shatterproof.

It is often used to replace rubber suspension bushings on "performance" vehicles and needs no lubrication.

It really looks like a "joy stick" and truly is.

I have the same Delrin shift knob! Works well, I like the look and like You said, kinda works as a short "er" shifter? lol

a previous owner had a bare metal restoration done on 2511 at Dennis Quella‘s shop, Pantera Performance center.

one of the little things Dennis usually does on cars going through his shop is to shorten and re-bend the shift lever, and remove the gate teeth. It is all I have ever known in 50,000 miles of driving and it just feels right.

YMMV

...Larry, I dig the Rearview Monitor!! The cut-down stalk and No-Fingers, is the ONLY Way to Go!! Try a 'Sphere' Knob, You won't Go-Back! Just My Opinion.

Your dash looks Great! I Know You put in a Lot of Work for It, Well Done!

Also, I really Like that You have the 'Electronics' exposed for Viewing! Very Interesting!!(I get it now, the Compartment Door was opened) I Like It.

Larry, I like the black crinkle finish on the license plate light cover and the license plate frame. Nice detail!

FYI, Hill Engineering, a well known Ferrari parts manufacturer, makes round billet shift knobs, in either 47mm or 50mm diameter, polished or satin silver anodized and with or without the shift pattern engraved in the top. The threaded hole is M10 x 1.25, so you need to order an M8 to M10 adapter with the knob.

David,

thanks for noticing. It is wrinkle powder coat.

All exterior metal on 2511 was treated to the same black wrinkle powder coat.

Yup, ALL. 🙂

the billet door handle tubs/pulls from IPSCO required two trips to the powder coater. First trip was taking the measured tubs to get coated, and then measuring to determine the thickness of the paint. That told me how much to remove from the pulls and the square chrome pieces to allow proper clearances when assembled.
