Spare Wheel

I do not know the spare size, but the stud pattern is 4.5" X 5, a typical ford pattern.

Can anybody tell me the diameter and width of the rim and tyre!

My spare wheel is in my spare bedroom - it's never been used and still has the original factory tyre (from 1972!).
I'll get the measurements from it - and a photo too.

Unless you're after originality, any size will work that has the correct bolt pattern. Of course, smaller is better if you want to have it in the car at all times.

It makes me wonder what will happen if you put a small spare on the rear, while on the other side you have a 335-35-17. The limet slip differetial gearset will have to slip one side a lot to keep the car from going in circles? That makes me belive in a tall skinny spare.But short enough to fit the front without scrubbing.

Mine came with an airless spare. It is pretty well next to worthless because I don't have the scissors jack. But it just sits in the trunk and looks pretty. Right next to the leather tool bag.

Approximate measurements is 39cm diameter across the rim (to the edge) and 20.5cm width.

My tyre is marked 'BF Goodrich Spacer Saver' and 'E78-14' and 'replaces 7.35-14'.

The stud pattern is 1970's US Ford so if you just want a spare maybe 1970's Aussie Ford Falcon wheel (maybe an XB) would fit.

I never carry my spare - I keep a couple of canisters of 'Tyre Weld' foam in the front and an RAC card in my pocket.

I couldn't find any makers names on the wheel - does anybody know who made the spares?

Is it a standard USA Ford wheel?

One more thing is the outside dimension of the tyre the same as the tyres on the car?

I don't know as I've never seen one pumped up.
The space saver stays deflated until you need it, otherwise you cannot get it in the front trunk.

But I guess it needs to be close or else the handling will be dreadful.

One last thought - if you use the spare, will the big wide GT5 wheel you have just taken off fit inside the car anywhere?

I've never seen the space saver spare for a Pantera! Seems everybody tosses them out.

Some '69 through '73 Mustangs were equipped with space saver tires. The size was rated 7.75 x 14 and the tire was manufactured by B.F. Goodrich.

I have no idea if the Pantera spare was borrowed from the Mustang, if so, then replacements will be as near as the nearest Mustang restoration shop. However, I believe the space saver spare for Mustangs is a highly sought after item, so I'm not sure if they have ever been reproduced. If they haven't, then you won't find one for a Pantera either. By the way, a 30 year old tire is not a spare tire, please don't use it.

I carry a portable, 12 VDC air compressor & tire plugging kit in my front boot. Plus a set of pliers for removing whatever has perforated my tire.
