I studied the attached oil pressure gage diagram and would like a clarification if you understand it. The way I understand it, it shows a pink wire coming from the fuse box, this must be power, and a pink and black wire heading to the sending unit. My sending unit has always had a black wire coming off the top. So I assume that this black wire is the same as the pink and black wire.

Does that make sense? I don't want to fry the gage if it's not already bad

sometimes a thread sealer or tape can keep the sending unit from grounding, so I tested it by adding a temporary ground wire. Still got nothing. I pulled the gage and will test it close to the sending unit. If that doesn't work give me a signal, I'll get another sending unit before going for a new or rebuilt gage. Have any of you tested a gage by some other means?

As I said in your last thread… just turn your ignition on , use the black wire from the sender, look through the rear window at your oil-pressure gauge and touch bare metal- ground momentary with the black wire… needle moves- sender bad..

very simple…

those gauges are not very precise… (you can cross reference with a mechanically gauge) But it gives you an idea where it should be normally, and if it deviates from that, you know you have a problem..

also you can check with an ohmmeter if your sender has ground… again very simple..

Well that looks simple enough. I've only had the car for 45 years so you can't know everything about it all at once. But this is testament just how tough these cars are.

Thank you

PS. Can you believe that the original gas cylinders that support the Pantera trunk lid still hold it up? In the meantime, our Nissan hood support cylinders had to be replaced after 6 years.

I have used Lemans850i's solution to testing where the problem is with my oil pressure gauge not giving me a reading. The gauge works and the wire to the gage is good, but there no signal from my brand-new sending unit. I also checked to make sure that the sending unit is getting connection to ground.  So, either it's no good or I ordered a wrong sending unit. Can anybody point me at a correct sending unit that works with the Pantera gauge? I used 1972 Ford Mustang 351C as my starting point. I can't imagine that this is too far off, but it must be, or I have bad luck.
