I'm still somewhat undecided as to how I want to have my 351-C rebuilt, as well as who to do the job. I'm now thinking of a stroker (393 c.i.) and am considering going with Speed-O-Motive in West Covina, CA. Their claim is top of the line CNC machine work and claim to be "stroker experts since 1946".

Does any one have any experience with them? They told me they have built a number of Clevelands (some went into Panteras)and they also offer a 408 crate engine. Any info about their reputation would be greatly appreciated.

Dennis,
I was looking into this my self, I found out that most of the work that the crank grinders out here are getting are the chinese crank supplier's, one which you mentioned.
The reason being is that when the cranks are originally ground they are not keeping there grinding wheels dress'd straight thus allowing the areas against the shoulders & radiuses to be a larger diameter than the center of the journals, this makes hot spots on the edges of the bearings. A true US made crank comes from Crower Cam's in San Diego, very costly!
I decided to go with a stock cleveland crank ground with a off set using a smaller rod journal, heat treated & hardened.

A little info,

Mark,

Sounds like a good way to go. What does that yield in cubic inches? I was just going to do a std. displacement rebuild, but after doing a lot of reading I'm concluding that adding cubic inches will really "wake up" the Cleveland and give greater reliable power where you can use it - on the street.

Also, what about Scat cranks? They offer a lot of versions and I believe are made in the U.S.
Speede-O-Motive says they will build any combination I wish, allowing me to pick and choose the parts.

Dennis, Approx 377 ci depending on bore. Interesting I have heard the 4V heads were meant for an engine in this cubic inch range, the 20 extra cubic inch's make's all the difference and is almost perfect for stock heads.
This is a thread that might have some info you can use, hope it helps. Also I have a Crower Solid Roller cam that might interest you on the spec's.
Let me know if I can Help.
