Does anyone know the direction of rotation of the speedometer cable? I would like to hook up a drill to my new speedometer cable to diagnose a jumpy speedometer needle problem.

I don’t think you will hurt anything if you spin it backwards a little - the speed o meter is coupled to the cable by a magnet…. Usually you can see the needle flick a little bit when you rotate the cable a little by hand.
It will move if you are spinning the cable in the correct direction, and not move if you are going the wrong way…

facing the rear of the speedo, turn counterclockwise.... yeah, the speedo itself is magnetically drawn (no direct coupling), but probably good to avoid turning the Odometer function backwards...

Thanks for the help. I'll take it slow at first until I determine the correct rotation.
It turns in the opposite direction when you drive in reverse and it doesn't damage anything...........
