T/O bearing started making noise

How much free travel do you have in the clutch pedal?

I checked the slave cylinder with a feeler gauge, and it was at .01" of free play. I then removed the set screw so the spring would pull it back until it was up against the bell housing. No change in the noise. I will check the pedal to see its movement.

I thought the slave cylinder was to have about 1/8" free play before hitting the t/o bearing?  That is what Lance Nist told me to always keep an eye on.  Otherwise, you have a conflict.

Forestg: There is less than 1" of free pedal.

Panterapat: I miss typed the free play on the slave. It is a little over .1" or about 7/64th.

The PO had stated that the engine was rebuilt, and I assumed the clutch was replaced at that time. But he never gave me any documentation to prove any of it.

I was able to test a little more. As long as I don't rev above about 2500RPM's then it doesn't make any noise. Go over that is when it starts.

I would try to increase your free play at the slave by about ,050 and see what that does. It sounds like at higher rpm the centrifugal effect has the fingers lightly brushing the bearing.

I backed out the stop bolt on the slave so the forks should pull back and press against the transaxle. The noise is still there. I can push on the peddle just a little to take up the slake and the noise stops.

I think I'm going to take a look at the slave to see if it is mounted correctly.
