Ok got my timing right. But when im crusing and go to accelorate its like it retards itself and then catches up and starts moving.(makes alot of noise but doesnt really go anywhere) then it catches up or releases and its ok. Also started when crusing acts like its gona die (like the carb stumbling) have to push clutch in and bring the rpms back up. But motor does not die. Seems like its choking its self out. Any ideas??

Sounds like the advance mechanism in the distributor is not working.

There are a couple of reasons that could happen. The advance springs could be stretched out or they could be disconnected.

You need to put a timing light on the car, read it at idle, then bring the rpms slowly up to 5000 and read the advance at every 1,000 rpms.

If you have a stock distributor, you should have full advance at 5,000 rpm which should be around 36 degrees.

The advance readings in between idle, which should be 14-16 degrees, should advance approximately progressively.

Sounds complicated but it is not. It will tell you if the mechanical advance is working or not.

When you do this you should disconnect the vacuum advance hose to the engine and plug it temporarily.
Remove the air cleaner & make SURE your choke isn't sticking.

Or simply disconnect it & wire it OPEN!!! for the "Driving Test".

Do you have site bowls in your carburettor?

If so are your fuel bowls FULL, indicating sufficient fuel flow.

You can always plug your fuel line & with a small gas can & fuel hose, connect the fuel hose to the carb to bypass the entire fuel delivery system.

does the engine run better with the bypassed fuel system?...

Start with the basics!

You have Spark!...are you getting enough "Air"? & enough "Fuel"?...Mark
I took it to a guy who build dirt track engines. Used him because i did t want a comunity college mechanic working on it. The itital timing is at 14 and over all at 36. He suggested that we change the advance springs in my dizzy to one blue and one green.(msd ready to run). My carb is a new holley 750 and a edlebrock high rise i take.(got both from precisiom preformance). When he set the timming the vacum advance was not removed from the dizzy. It idles fine and runs smooth it only starts stumbling and fumbling when im moving. All new dizzy carb manifold coil plugs wires (fuel line and filter kit from (PP) also

maybe let the community college mechanic take a swing at it?
Would you let a Sub-Saharan witch doctor preform brain surgery on you???!!! Eeker Sympathy...Mark

How did you hear about that? It wasn't my fault. He was brewing something made from desert cactus and gave me a sip. I don't remember anything after that? Eeker

HEY Doug; When I initially read the caption "Retard Problem"...I thought somebody was complaining about a certain member of Pantera International

Sorry to read you were slipped an organic version of a "Roofie" Sympathy

Did the witch doctor at least buy you breakfast in the morning?! ...Mark
Well first off, retard is a politically incorrect term these days. I thought personally you would object to the usage?

I simply don't remember what happened with the witch doctor over night but I did wake up covered in body paint, hot wax and with a chicken cuddling me.
I am concerned that maybe I got married to it overnight?
I can't ask the WD since he was deported as an illegal alien and has no electricity in his country.
