Whats the advantage over the original simple Ford unit?

I have to say it looks a complex way of sparking.


There is no room for the distributor in its original location with some induction set ups.

For instance, the Boss 302's that were run in Trans-Am in '69 used two Holley Dominator carbs mounted sideways on an individual runner intake manifold similar to a tunnel ram.

The linkage for the front carb went where the distributor cap normally would be located.

The solution was an offset distributor like this one that relocated the cap to the side.

With a GMC blower it is likely that there is the same issue.

The only other way would be to go distributorless with ignition firing done by a crank trigger.


I don't have any good pictures of that set up but as I recall GP does or did?

If you go to this link and click on the pictures there is a nice engine shot that shows the offset distributor under the front carb. The pictures are "right protected" so I can't copy them and repost them here.

Here is a picture from a previous post. See how the distributor is offset?
