The guy from the insurance company said it may have been the most damaged car he had ever seen! I thought to myself, whoa, that is all he does is look at wrecked vehicles. I keep counting my lucky stars. Big Grin

I don't know what happenend. I rung my bell pretty good and I remember virtually nothing. There were apparently no witnesses. I was pretty out of it for a couple of days. I'm just happy to be alive and well. I'll be happier when I find another Pantera! Big Grin
Oh, my God, what a wreck. The fact that you survived at all is a miracle! You have some very lucky (OK, crashing was not so lucky, but...) stars above looking out for you Art. Terrible loss of a beautiful Pantera, but as all have said, cars can be replaced.

Best of luck recovering and dealing with the insurance and finding a new car.

Garth is correct. The pictures of the car are at the towing company's yard. At the end of the accident, the car ended up on its roof. I am told that I was unconscious when I was found and that I eventually pulled myself out of the car thru the windshield. This occurred as the damaged fuel tank was leaking gas. I'm glad I didn't end up as a crispy critter. Big Grin

The accident occurred in May of this year. The car has been outdoors ever since. Perhaps some of what you are seeing is the red dirt that is inside and all over the car. I think I was out there plowing the back forty. Big Grin

My head was pretty clear by the time I left the hospital, four and a half days after the accident. When I got out of the hospital, I went directly to the tow yard to see the car. Based on the fact that I walked out of the hospital after a few days, I thought to myself, how bad can the car be? I thought that perhaps it could be repaired? I was blown away when I saw it. I was happy and more than a little surprised to be alive! About two weeks after the accident, I went to retrieve the car. Prior to that trip, I could not remember anything that had happened in the last three hours before the accident. When I returned to the scene, bits and pieces of my memory returned. I have never been able to remember the last few minutes leading up to the accident.
Art - glad you survived, thanks to Garth's pictures we can all see the car for what it was and compare - it was beautiful. To add another line of thought to this thread - How strong is the roof - you obviously rolled the car (maybe end over end, who knows). Do you think we should all weld in a roll bar to be safe, that was my first thought after seeing your crash pics, then again you might have smacked your noggin on a roll bar and done worse. Food for thought anyway. It is a miracle you survived.

I think a roll bar is probably a good idea provided it is well padded like you say. I think racing harnesses without a roll bar could be a bad idea. Had I been wearing a racing harness, I don't think I would have been so fortunate. I think my 3point seat belt/shoulder strap allowed my torso to go to the relatively unaffected passenger side. All that being said, I don't feel the need to rush out and buy a roll bar for my next Pantera. I don't intend to turn the next car over, but then again, I wasn't planning to turn the last one over. Big Grin

Art, my heartfelt condolences and wishes for a speedy full recovery from any injuries you sustained. It looks like things could have turned out a LOT worse.

I guess not remembering the specifics has its good and bad points: good, not feeling apprehensive in similar situations later on; bad, not knowing exactly what not to do next time.

As some months have now elapsed, you must already be moving on to the stage where you can be philosophical about it.

Good luck in your search for another car. From the looks of the before pictures, you know how to care for them, and definitely deserve another good one. Mistakes happen, but thankfully only seldom.
