PCNC teams, working with other Pantera clubs in California and Arizona, have put together a West Coast Pantera Rally for September 2024 centered around San Simeon due to its central California location and amenities.  All Pantera Owners are invited and welcome! The approach is to minimize the magnitude of required planning and club financial commitments and just set up core lodging, rendezvous and rally locations for us all to enjoy our company and magnificent cars.  Please read on for all the details and join us for a great West Coast Pantera Rally!

Timing:

Drive in on Friday September 13th with gatherings, dinners, tours and rallies planned throughout the weekend.

Basic Plan:

To minimize planning needs and reduce costs, Participants are asked to make their own reservations at the primary hotel listed below.  Gatherings will be at specific restaurants or interesting establishments throughout the weekend.  For the NORCAL folks there will be an organized rally down through beautiful roads with limited time on highways organized by Andrew Duafala. Hearst castle group tour and photo opportunity is the morning of the 14th and a rally organized by Erik Kolstoe is set for the 15th.  More details on all of this below.

Drive In:

Meet in the Windmill Market in San Juan Bautista (about an hour South of San Jose just off hwy 156). Depart at 11:00 AM.  The roads have been checked, are smooth and fun to run.  Only a couple of miles of Freeway.  There are stops that have Gas, food and restrooms.

Hotel:

The primary lodging is the Cavalier Oceanfront resort.  It is a big property with a lot of amenities.  Lots of parking, pools and a good-sized bar restaurant complex.  It has 90 rooms and plenty of availability at this point.  Make your reservation soon!!!

Restaurants/gathering places:

There are about 10 great places in the area.  We have selected ones for each night’s gathering and after the Sunday rally.

Friday the 13th – Cavalier Resort restaurant and Bar complex.

Saturday the 14th – San Simeon Beach Bar and Grill (Seafood +)

Sunday the 15th (finish line on the circle rally) – Mozzi’s Saloon & pool hall

Sunday Evening – San Simeon Restaurant (American)

Events:

Hearst Castle Group Grand Tour and photo opportunity.

The club is booking a group tour to make sure we are all together (selected is the “Grand Tour”) at 11:00 on the 14th.  It is $27.45 per person group rate.  We are working on getting a special parking location for a good photo opportunity with the castle close in the background.  We ask that you pay Mark Bailey either at opportunities before the tour or at the door.  Cash or check please, he does not have a CC machine!

Sunday Rally:

On Sunday, we will depart the hotel at 0830 for a scenic back roads drive from Cambria to the Paso Robles Airport, where we will have brunch at Joe’s Place, a.k.a. the One Niner Diner:
Following brunch we will be going to the Woodland Auto Display:
Which is co-located with the Estrella Warbirds Museum:
Entry to both museums will be only $20 per person, and they will have special parking set aside for us.
The museum is located close to the 101 freeway, so for those who aren’t planning on staying the extra night back in Cambria, they will be well-positioned to set off for home from there.
We will need to provide numbers to both the restaurant and museum so RSVP *is* required. Even if you already said you were coming to the event generally, we need to know if you plan to go to Hearst Castle, the brunch, and the museum individually.

Joe Kuntze has graciously stepped up to plan and run a loop rally on Sunday.  We depart from the Cavalier Resort at 10:00 and will return to Mozzi’s Saloon for afternoon libations.

Optional: – Button Willow is about two hours East.  Speed Ventures, a performance driving school/driving experience is running the 14th and 15th.  It is open to all.  Nothing is posted for the track on Monday the 16th.   Cambria wine country – There is a Highway that runs East out of Cambria and is dotted with wineries and tasting rooms.  Most famous is the Cambria Winery.  It is a fun day to get an empty case box, drive out East on the road and work your way back into Cambria hitting tasting rooms and picking up wine you like as you go.  Many of the places do “you make” picnic baskets.  Please drink and drive responsibly.
