What is the Small Canister thing in the trunk?

What exactly is the small round device in the trunk? It is part of the brake system. Looks like a water seperator on my air compressor. Cam it be removed? What does it do? I took it apart and it appears to push fluid back into the rear brakes.

I think you are referring to the brake pressure bias valve. It actually reduces pressure to the front brakes. Some have gutted the device or removed it altogether and plumbed in a T. Modern tires can handle more brake pressure to the front.
