I understand that about 18 or 19 of these cars were built, but I only know about my black car and Hall's purple targa car. Where the heck did all the other cars go? I never see them on the forum, but then again maybe they don't come here. It would just be interesting to chat with them, or at least know the cars are still around. A few shots here of mine if any other Hall Ultra Pantera 5S owners around want to add their cars:

Extremely beautiful car!! I am always amazed at how little documentation and information is around for the various Pantera creations made by Hull. I would love to see some more cars. Is it possible (likely not for the 5S's) that some owners don't know they have a Hall Pantera and think their car was just modified by a previous owner?
Jan,

I find it hard to believe that Hall built 18 of the 5S variant, perhaps 18 Ultra Pantera's total?

There's a GT5 in Hawaii, the targa purple people eater, a few Group 4's, one being Rapid's old car.

Perhaps Bev or Tara Hall would be able to verify numbers and types?

Julian
No disparagement meant or intended, but I thought "Rapid" was a Hall Super Pantera?

Are their two types (Super & Ultra)?

OBTW: Does anyone have an assessment of the 5S recent sales on 5S "clones"? I looked at one in Reno at PPC back in 2012 (a yellow car). Just curious - It seemed to be reasonably well done, but I was pretty new to the Pantera world at that time, and I really didn't know what I was looking at.

I stand corrected, it does appear the 'Ultra' package is a 5S conversion, thanks for the flyer Rocky.

That yellow 5S conversion needed some additional work and took a long time to sell. If you look at the 5S steel fenders the vendors are offering they are formed out of multiple pieces welded together. The factory 5S fenders are steel stamped, I have set in my garage!

There is/will be a market for 5S conversions and I suspect the price will increase at some % of real ones, where that lies I'm not sure but I can't see it being any higher than good original regular Panteras. Most of the folks buying these cars at auction are collectors looking for an investment and originality is king.

Yes, the Super Panteras were about 28 or so built, and he stopped building those in 1992, then later on he started on a limited number of the Ultra 5S (18 total). Long before he passed we chatted about it quite a bit in his shop. Or I should say Gary chatted about it and I listened (he could talk endlessly about his cars). So I just wonder where these 18 cars are now. Well, I know where two are, so that leaves 16 somewhere. As noted in the post above, they pretty much had signature parts, but he also varied slightly too if certain customers wanted to add more. For instance, he fuel injected mine as opposed to carb.

I prefer them a bit more than stock 5S as they are just a different breed altogether. I like well built custom cars, so this fits right for me. I think the real 5S are like you say, bought more for collector aspects, whereas the Ultra Hall 5S adds a bit more exotic oomph in appearance and power. For instance, no need to have it smogged, at least not in CA anyway. So it is easy to have the radical HP Fontana aluminum engine and just pay annual registration.

Julian you are for sure that the stamped fenders also not are welded togheter by the factory?
when you unpaint a GT5-S fender you see a sign of the welding.
not onuseually for fenders whit those curve's

Im wondering if there is a way to find out if my car (3995) would be considered a "Hall Super Pantera".
It started life as a yellow L-bodied car, but somewhere in the early 80's went to 'Hall Pantera'and emerged with the GT5 body, dropped floor pans, new dash, leather interior, and a whole bunch of Hall Pantera parts. It took another trip to Hall again in the mid 90's for a bunch more work.
I just stumbled upon this webpage from when it was put up for sale in about 2011. It does a good job of listing the work that was done by Hall.
What do you guys think? Is there any way to document this as a "Hall Super

There's a lot of great stuff and pictures of your car on ProvaMo, (beautiful car, by the way) but the advertising info says....

We are pleased to offer 1972 De Tomaso Pantera s/n 03995 with one long-term owner since 1993 and only 22,248 miles. Built to full GT5 body specifications, this Pantera has numerous Hall Super Pantera-inspired upgrades. The owner had the car stripped to bare metal and repainted by Hall Pantera.

I thought all the Super Pantera's got named (like "Rapid" and "Purple Haze")- or am I wrong about this too...

No special names. I can tell you the ultra Panteras were very very expensive.

Thanks, that's about what I thought on numbers. I only labeled that photo as Purple Haze because I am still experiencing the effects of Jimmy Hendrix and the trees seemed to fit well.

Yeah I saw those in his shop too, and I believe his Ultra 5S Targa was "Purple Passion". Maybe he just named his own personal cars.
Mine was done there the same way. I visited Hall's shop several years ago and asked if they had any info on mine. They were all nice but no one was going to lift a finger to check. The only thing I got was "yup..looks familliar."

Now...it's a Gary Walker Super Pantera!

Hall's website currently has a link for the
super Pantera history which shows the original blue car #1 and the silver car from "Pantera's for the road" book I assume all Pantera owners have. If not, get a copy on Amazon used for cheap. I have Halls catalogs from the early 1980s and in them Gary had a description of what a super Pantera was in terms of the parts, fabrication and upgrades consisted of. If you google Hall super Pantera, several images are available and yes, no two cars were the same as these were one-off hand built cars for persons giving Gary $100G. Most were flared group IV cars, but not all. Gary also stuck flares and stuff on owner cars as "conversions" but they are not super Panteras.

Ultra Panteras came much later and were GT5S styled cars. Many fewer were built.

Gary seemed to name all the cars he built.

It is too bad this was never recorded or shared and with Gary no longer with us, that is gone I guess.

Late to the party, but I believe I hold one of the missing Ultras. Picked it up a few years ago from an estate collection where it sat for at least 20 years and have been restoring it ever since. Didn't want to alter it too much but bored out the Fontana block to a 408 with custom diamond pistons for 600hp on the dyno at Mesa Balancing in Miami (obviously the restoration contained a lot more than I anticipated, but she's damn near perfect now). I contacted Hall and apparently, they had a fire and lost all of their Super & Ultra records, FML...

Here is one of the GP IV flared Super Panteras that Gary built for sale.  Car was through 2 auctions in the recent past:  https://www.hemmings.com/class...auderdale-fl-2772670

From my understanding, Gary named HIS cars but not customer cars.   Big Red, Ol' Blue, Root Beer, Burgundy Express,  etc. were all cars he owned, but not all were considered Super Panteras.  Some are still in the showroom at the shop.

Just an FYI, Bev Hall recently passed away.  Not sure if the build records still exist.  I have collected pictures of many of the super Panterasacross the years.
