Note that only at closed or almost closed throttle is there a difference, normal driving and accelerating the vacuum is the same. Proven in a test. So use the port that gives you the best idle and being able to start it.
IMHO you can't use advice like a certain number of degrees for anything more than a starting point, it varies per engine, and you can only optimize your engine timing by trial and error as my book describes. Those that have read it will agree...
