My 1974 Euro Pantera has a tan leather interior from the factory.  Its wooden Momo steering wheel was likely installed at the factory as well.  The wooden steering wheel looks nice with the tan leather but it feels a little like something that came out of a Ford LTD.  This has become more apparent lately since I have been driving another Pantera with a 13" leather wrapped Lecarra steering wheel (the thick one) that has the feel of a race car.  I am modifying the upper front a-arms in the Euro car to get 7.5 degrees positive caster and I pre-ordered SACC's electric power steering.  I think it is time to put the wooden steering wheel on a shelf and go with something like the 13" Lecarra.  I will be retaining the existing Momo hub.  Which Momo steering wheel would you recommend for this setup?

Steve,

IMO, I think the wood steering wheel looks great with the tan interior, but I understand about the 13" leather wrapped Lecarra steering wheel (I have one).  It would be nice if you could get a Lecarra or something else in tan leather to match the interior.  I like some of the newer steering wheels that is flat on the bottom, but IMO, I don't know if it looks good in Panteras.  I started installing a SACC Power steering system in my car on 01-02-23.  Talk to me before you start the install.  Working out nicely.

Larry, I have a Lecarra hub that I could swap in.  Along with that I have a Lecarra four spoke steering wheel but it needs some help.  A Momo steering wheel is a little easier in this case.  I am looking forward to the electric power steering and strategizing about it.

Steve, I don't think that's a Momo hub, so it's unlikely the steering wheel was installed at the factory. Why not go with the Momo Prototipo, which is similar to what you have now but covered in leather? It was also OEM post Ford's involvement.

Prototipo

David, the steering wheel on the car is stamped with Momo and is likely mounted to a 6x70mm hub.  Not sure that it is from the factory but it is likely at least 25 years old.  The Prototipo is definitely on my list.  Summit offers a knock off in tan which could be an option but an actual black Momo might be better.  Here is a closeup of the steering wheel on the car.

I ordered the Momo Prototipo steering wheel as pictured above by David.  The car now has 5.25 degrees positive caster and, as expected, steering is much heavier.  I am looking forward to a steering wheel with better grip.  I recently learned that my wooden steering wheel might work well for me if I wore leather driving gloves.  But I am taking the low road and will just use a leather covered wheel.

The Prototipo always looks right at home in a Pantera. There are lots of options too (polished, black or anthracite spokes, black or white stitching, etc.). There's also a version called the Mod.7 that's dished. If you're willing to pay for it, Momo will build a custom Prototipo too, in different color combinations, logos, colored bands at 12:00, different kinds of leather, etc.
