Wilwood Superlights

Sounds like the master seals are on their way south.

I originally thought it was the master so I removed the lines installed plugs and the master is solid, no pedal movement. The system has been this way since it was originally installed. I remember at the time someone in Oklahoma had a similar problem but did not hear if it was resolved or just the way they work.

What type of flexible brake lines are you using?

Jack, if you purchased your set-up from Pantera Performance, why don't you just call up Dennis Quella? He'll know exactly what parts you have and really appreciates a guy that races his car.
He's always been more than generous with his time and can probably get to the bottom of the trouble, or give you tips on tracking it down. He'll have everything you need to fix it too.
I have one of his systems on my car and have been very happy with it and the advice he's provided.

Jack,

Spongy breakes normally indicates to me the master needs bench bleeding. However, I'll trust yor evaluation of the situation and suggest the following test.

remove the tubing from the master & plug it one circuit at a time, while leaving the other circuit connected.

If the problem is indeed at the brakes and not the master, you should be able to narrow down the problem this way, determine if its in the front brake or the rear brake circuit.

Thank you for the input. I have talked to Dennis and yes he is very helpfull. I have no critisizm of Dennis. I am just tired of throwing money at it a wondered if someone else has had the same experience and identfied the problem. I currently own a 87 M6, 88 M5, 02 M5 and a 97 expedition. The BMWs brake significantly better than the Pantera and even the expedition brakes have better feel/performance. I will plug the front and rear curcuits separately tonight to see if I can isolate the problem. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Jack, you might want to install some residual valves(2) coming off the brake master cylinder for your front and rear circuits.They can be purchased from Wilwood.

Yes, I have installed the pressure residual valves. I also removed the rubber disk in the vacume booster, installed a new master, changed to Performance friction brake pads, deleted proportioning valve, deleted shuttle safty switch and installed brake light switch on pedal inside car. Am I the only person with problems?

I see from the picture you are not using Dennis's master. Bob Byer says to run the fast fill master he sells, PI says to run the replacement master (factory look a like but 1 1/8inch). I do not mind spending the money I just want it to work. I am tired of replacing parts.

I have a Wilwood 4 piston system on my Pantera, employing 12 3/4" rotors. The car is capable of amazingly agressive stops. Much more so than my friend's '88 M6, even though the M6 has ABS. I love the brakes on my Pantera.

I am running the same rotors. Did you purchase the system from Dennis? Which Master cylinder are you running? What pads are you using? Do you brakes feel spongy at all? Thank you

I've robbed a picture of my master cylinder from an older topic. See below. Its an aluminum Ford master. The system was on the car when I purchased it, so I can't say from whom it was purchased, but it looks to me as though it was installed by a vendor rather than the previous owner of the car.

The pads are Wilwood, they have about a dozen different formulations for brake pad material. I'm at work, and therefore away from my notes, so I can't tell you which formulation I'm using.

The brakes do not feel spongy.

The master Dennis was selling at the time of my purchase was the Mastang SVO. He is now using a different Master. Thank you for any help you could provide.

Yours looks like the 1 1/8 inch master, SVO, but if possible could you get any numbers off it. Thank you

Jack, go into any Pep boys or similar and ask for a master cylinder for a Ford Mustang SVO 4 cylinder yrs 1984-86. They only make them in steel not aluminum like the originals.I had one in my car.
