Mark,

gosh I get uncomfortable when someone asks for help & nobody chimes in.

This is another one of those situations where I have no experience. I plan on doing this mod myself one of these days, because it will allow the use of a larger condenser. That plus the better air flow should make the A/C system produce ice cubes. This will also allow me to use a modified tub in back to accomodate additional luggage.

You will be able to shed the weight of one fan from the rear of your car, but your radiator fan relays will need to be wired so that running the A/C system turns on the radiator fans.

In honor of the support he gives this BB, I would suggest giving Jerry at PI Motorsports a call. Steve Wilkinson sells a kit to perform the mod, you might consider giving him a call as well. Sorry I can't be of more help.

This mod is also on my "to do" list. It's been done many times before so it's certainly a tried-and-true upgrade. Talking to folks that have done this mod, it has no negative effect on their engine cooling even though the condensor is placed smack dab in front of the radiator.

The big pluses I see is 1) removing weight from the rear 2) since the rear condensor sits in an vacuum, at speed, with no airflow going through it..moving it up front you have all the airflow you need and 3) removing the condensor from the rear definitely increases the "cool" factor. The engine compartment looks cleaner and you can now look through the lower screen and get a hint of the beautiful ZF!

Call Hall Pantera and ask for Gary or his lovely wife for help on this. I never bother with any of the other folks that answer their phone.

Also, I'm certain PI can help too.
I don't know if it is true or not, but I also heard it helps condensers last longer. They said it is something in the engine exaust fumes being sucked in that makes the aluminum condensers spring leaks and all your freon leaks out. So moving it to the front gets it away from the exaust fumes. It would seem to me once it is gone from the rear, it would open up a dandy place for the bundle of snakes 180 pipes to exit. Can you imagine two five inch diameter pipes sticking out from that square hole where the condenser sits now??? Yikes. Eeker
