Hello all,
I just bought a new AC switch that was delivered this morning from PI. This is the rotary switch that says, off, colder. I took off three wires from the old switch but the new switch only has provisions for two. There is a blue wire on the top and a white wire in the middle. The red wire has no where to hook up. PI isn't open until Monday and I'd like to get this nailed down today. The old switch has what seems to be an extra part screwed on to the bottom of it. I took that part off but it doesn't mate to the new switch properly, specifically the part where the small screw goes in. I believe that the old switch was original. Any one know what to do? Thanks,Vince

Vince,

The compressor cycles as the temp of the air exiting the evaporator increases & decreases. The condenser fan on early cars turned off & on with the cycling of the compressor, on later cars the fan ran full time, it didn't cycle. This was one of Ford's "improvements".

I don't know at which point in the production of the Pantera that change was made, but I believe it was one of the earlier revisions. Obviously by combining wires the condenser fan will now cycle with the compressor, which may be altering the fuctionality of your car, going backwards from Ford's improvement.

Regardless of that issue, you now have twice the current flowing through the one contact. Safe to say, pulling 2 relays shouldn't be a problem, but directly sourcing 2 loads WOULD be a problem. So, the second question is, does your car have the relays for the compressor clutch & condenser fan?

Jerry probably already has these issues under consideration & I'm raising the red flag for nothing, if so I apologize.

George
