Okay I know this has been tackled many a time before, but I need to find some substitute seats for the GT5... and soon as my neck is permanently cricked to one side at the moment. The Hunsacker's Coz installed look great but simply have too much bolster bottom and back to work for me at 6'/195lb.

With Vegas looming there is no way I could even consider getting a helmet on for the track with the Hunsacker's, but I do have a spare Corvette seat that I could install for Vegas if it came to it, but that's not going to show well. I want a high back seat with harness holes and I'm really taken with the installation pictured below (well apart from the yellowness ), anyone have any idea what these seats are?

Thanks, Julian

Julian,

Because they are so very thin, and appear to be a 1 piece shell construction (fiberglass or carbon fiber) I think they are a racing seat that has been re-upholstered in leather. The question is "who's racing seat". Most racing seats have much higher bolsters in the hip and rib area.

These may be some older seats before the high bolsters became commonplace, or the shells may have been cut down on the sides for more comfort and easier ingress/egress, or these may be a brand I haven't been able to find on the internet.

However, they are similar to the Sparco Roadster, which has fairly low side bolsters from the factory, see pic below.

The good news is racing seats with fiberglass shells are relatively inexpensive.

Those are pretty cool. How comfy are they?

If I'm not mistaken they look very much like what I saw in the Mangusta show car, the one with the glass roof and the cardboard gauges.

They are what I would honestly expect to find in a Mangusta or a Pantera.
This type of seat makes sense for the size of the cabin.

I think the production seats were some sort of compromise with Ford but I think they were wrong for the car.

Thanks for the pictures Shotgun.
They look similar to the seat I use in my Pantera at the track its a sparco jr. I don't use tracks and I bolt it directly to the floor from the bottom requires some sort of spacer to lift the front of the seat about an inch and a half. Fits perfect after that. Its almost like sitting on the floor.

Those have probably been recovered to look nice.

I'm a little wider than a junior so I widened mine about two inches with a porta power unit with the cover still on. The frame is just made out of round steel tubing.

Sorry the cars not at my house so I can't shoot a picture.

I like the form and function look of the Elise seats and contacted Brad plus have been hanging around on the Elise/Exige forum to try to find a set. Came up trumps with a swap out set from a 1500 mile car for $695 to my door.

What do you think guys?

Brad,

Thanks, do you have a photo to show how far up the back comes? I have harness belts and wonder whether they'll clear the seat shoulder okay?

Are your floor pans standard or dropped?

Thanks, Julian

Julian

My floors are standard, here are some pics of the top of the seat, hope this helps, I think you will like them ,,, and thats a great price, you got a deal (seats and stock mounts)

OH, and Brad.

The black seats look like a natural fit for the '71 - '74 interior. Good eye my friend. So are you the first to install Elise seats?

My one concern, they are so slim, are they going to be comfortable for long drives? Or is the padding going to compress and allow you to hit bottom after sitting in them a while?

George,

Thanks, yes I think they'll turn out a good buy all around. Color match should be pretty close, that was one of the most difficult aspects I came across in my search for an alternative seat, availability of race style seats in tan/biscuit colors.

The Elise forum guys seem to be happy with comfort levels, although they do say the '06 seats are better than '05. The ones I picked up have the pump up lumbar support for a small level of individual refinement. The latest Exige Probax seats are apparently better still but run in the order of $1,250 per seat and again all seem to be black.

I'm hoping they'll be here and installed for Vegas, so watch how I'm walking when I come into the Hospitality suite Big Grin (there is no way I could put a helmet on with the current Hunsackers, despite having cut a good inch of foam out of the cushions).

You are welcome to test drive the seat at Vegas.

Julian
WHile we are on the subject of seats???

I was thinking ...

Does anyone have any pics of those rare GT4 seats ???? the ones that had the horizontal white bars ?? I had a brain storm to reproduce them but in a rolled leather. I have a close friend in North carolina in the leather business I wanted to show him those pics.

Thanks

Ron
