The AUDI is in P1 - prototype 1. P2 has the factory Porsche, Acura, and Mazda (I think) prototypes which are down on power compared with the P1 teams. The other P1 teams are privateers. Obviously the other Porsches, Ford GT, Ferrari F430, and Aston Martins are in GT. Strangely the Corvettes run alone in a higher GT class - unopposed. I think next year there may be only one GT class as opposed to two. I am in California to watch the last ALMS race at Laguna Seca. I stopped by the track today. Tomorrow is testing - I will be rooting for the Porsches in P2 and GT. The tipoff in the video is that McNish is passing even the other prototype cars at every point in the track including times he's way off the racing line. Granted I would crash the car within a lap or two but he isn't even taking the same line through the corners every time even when he isn't in traffic, I don't think the Audi P1 has any real competition at the end of a straightaway in ALMS and the torque on the diesel is nuts.
I should mention if any of you are true Ford guys that the Ford GT and the Panoz sounded awesome and looked great. They were LOUD. You would all be very proud. The Viper and the Vettes were also very loud - all the V8 gt cars induced ear pain and I spent most of my time plugging my ears with my fingers. The flat-6 porsches where relatively quiet and the V8 ferraris sounded completely different than the larger displacement american iron V8s and V10s.
